https://www.nu.nl/konings...veiling-8510-euro-op.html

Loosely translated as

Children's drawing of Princess Beatrix yields 8,510 euros at auction

Five drawings made by the then eight-year-old Princess Beatrix were auctioned on Tuesday evening for 8,510 euros, auction house Van Spengen answers questions from NU.nl.

The drawings were presented in one frame, together with a portrait of the princess with her sisters and father and mother. Van Spengen expected the work to yield between 3,000 and 5,000 euros.

The amount of 8,510 euros does not include auction costs, let the auction house know. The unknown buyer of the work must transfer a total of around 11,000 euros.

The drawings show that the princess was already occupied with the throne at a young age: one of the drawings shows princesses in wide dresses and with hair pinned up high. In another drawing, a princess is sitting on a mushroom, opposite a larger queen with wings.

The other three drawings are nature drawings. The images show various mushrooms and a bird on a nest. The drawings are signed with the name 'Trix' or 'Beatrix'.

The drawings were once owned by the Danish royal family. They were later donated to the owner's family who now offer the images.

Perhaps they were once gifted, at a state visit or such.

I will see if I can find out. I already planned to do that, as I was also triggered by that part of the text.

Beatrix and Margrethe visited the Amager region
Daisy & Bea Beatrix visited the Amager region in Denmark to attend the 500th anniversary of the presence of Dutch farmers in Denmark and the 100th anniversary of the Amager Museum. The anniversary events were celebrated with a one-year delay because of last year’s coronavirus restrictions.

In 1521, Danish King Christian II invited Dutch farmers to settle in Denmark because of their agricultural knowledge. The Dutch farmers settled in Store Magleby in Amager and in the following generations, they developed the specialized Amager farming, which is a particular way of growing vegetables

I have read somewhere - I don’t remember and it is some time past - that adding a dilution of vodka to tulips will make them stand upright for longer. Perhaps they are pouring vodka?

Thanks! That makes sense. I've poured a bit of sugared water into the vases for tulips, alstromeria (sp?), roses, and carnations especially if they were in a sunny room. Keeps them fresh looking and holds the blooms longer. I thought there might have been some ceremonial purpose to the effort.

Pretty sure that was some sort of a christening  and they poured a bit of champagne over the tulips. The glasses are flutes and flowers are often christened at events.

Boy, this photo shows their advanced age brutally.
Usually, when I look at the Queens (either one!) I still see them like they were about 15 years back, so already elderly, but still in possession of all their faculties. This picture here however shows how frail and elderly both have become.... Frightening, somewhat, isn't it?
