Isn't it somewhat strange that you have to step over the stone marker, that supposedly is the "entrance" to the vault, to get to the little altar in the back at which you can kneel and say your prayers?
Yes. It would also be nice for the slab to face towards the opening. I am assuming it might possibly have something do with the original foundation, but it's odd, none the less.
I think it also has to do with the north. Donít all altars have to face east? At least in the orthodox church they do.
Matthew 24:27, Jesus says, "As the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man."
