That makes a lot more sense then all the Kate Grenadier rumors the press was peddling. Now way would Charles give Kate something so prestigious without giving Camilla something equally so. Camilla for the Grenadier makes sense as consort and Kate for the Irish makes sense as she's replacing William as he moves to the Welsh. It's a good move.
I do hope that Camilla and Kate channel QETQM and never appear in uniform. I know that it's technically allowed but as neither have served it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Honestly I have never seen any female member of the BRF apart from QEII and Anne wearing one of the regimental uniforms, but I could be mistaken. Typically they might wear something related to the regiments, but not However I do believe I've seen Sophie in training gear during an outdoor exercise with one of her honorary military appointments, much like I've seen Victoria, Marie, Mary and recently Amalia. I fully expect to see Camilla and Catherine in the carriages for the Trooping the Color and will probably never be on horseback. Edward- Kent would be in the carriages too as the Scots Guards Colonel and perhaps one day Edward- Wessex will have this role. Years ago Camilla might have been able to handle the ceremony on horseback, but not today. Charles would be joined by William and Anne on horseback for the parade and ceremony. The Duchess of Kent used to show up quite often in uniform. I miss Katherine so much, she always brought such a sweet, sparkling presence to royal events.

I've seen in a few places that Charles still plans on going to Birkhall after Boxing Day. I wonder if this means Sandringham will be closed for the rest of the family of if they'll be able to stay on for longer, if they wish to.

It doesn't matter how old you get, buying snacks for a road trip should always look like an unsupervised 9-year-old was given $100.

That lovely photo of a much younger duchess of Kent makes me wonder how she's doing. She's been invisible for a while now and seemed quite frail at her most recent public events. Any question of whether she's struggling with memory issues?

She's such a beauty and a really sweet person from what I've read. She tried hard to help Diana with her issues and they were quite close.
I don't think she is teaching piano anymore, whether that is due to cognitive issues, I don't know. They've always been very discreet with her many health issues. I do miss the old days when she and Birgitte would turn out deck to the nines. <sigh>

Well, she's going to turn 90 in February so anything's possible, I guess. Hoping she's comfortable and surrounded by loving family.

Charlotte is the most popular girls’ name in my left-leaning, pro-republic town for the third year in a row!!!

It's so funny to me that Charlotte is a royal name. That's because we had someone with that name marry into our family and it was a poor fit. She had atrocious grammar and a very limited understanding of the world. Her house was a very odd place to visit, her cooking was peculiar and depended heavily on opening cans and store-bought everything, and the children she bore all ended up in an odd fundamentalist sect. So it's a name that fives me shivers of a not very good kind.

Charlotte was on my list of possible girl names (for a hypothetical child, of course) until Princess Charlotte was born. I figured it would skyrocket in popularity.

I love Charlotte as a name in general, royal or not. One of those nice, old fashioned names that never really goes out of style. I always think of "Charlotte's Web", one of my favorite books from childhood.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d likely still use it, but it definitely dropped down the list a bit. It’s a name used (sporadically) in several generations of both sides of my family.

It's very popular name in my family too and used in every generation since some great-great granny introduced it. Funnily enough her sister's name (quite a similar sounding name with double TTs) hasn't been used once...
Anyway: about the amount of work the Wales do: I have no problem with Kate wanting to be there for her kids and give them a more "stay-at-home-with-mom" upbringing. I am very much of the opinion, that people should (as far as they can) choose what they want in life, without having to bow to "social norms" - women have fought far too hard to get out of the kitchen, just to be forced into another room without having a choice! The Welsh question however is: they have a huge job - so they either share it (more or less) equally or like in most other families, one does more outside the family and the other inside. With the Wales, neither is doing a full 40h week and most people in that wage-bracket do more than 40 hs. So if Kate, by their decision is keeping her workload limited in order to be more "hands on to the kids", William needs to do more. And considering that a) the kids are in school til afternoon b) there is no shopping, cleaning and laundry to be done at home c) Kate can dictate the schedule - people make appointments with her not she with them - being more productive in the mornings and early afternoons should not be a problem.
