I can’t make heads or tails of this “the wedding is off until I get a kidney” business. Is it the passive aggressive ransom it sounds like? Awesome start to a life together.

IMO if you want to be married to someone you make the wedding happen regardless of limitations imposed by health, money, time, etc.  Think Beatrice and Edo, Philippos and Nina, and thousands of others who married during COVID restrictions.  Using the limitations as reasons to delay reads to me as having prioritized having the day of your dreams over being married to the person you love.

There's nothing stopping a couple from marrying in a simple ceremony in the midst of their troubles and then celebrating later when worries ease.

That’s what I hope too. I would expect a health crisis to be the occasion for a quickie wedding, not an excuse for putting it off. Unless they are both realizing that this situation is unlikely to give either of them what they really want. Durek may want to wait until he’s healthy enough to really make bank from the wedding, ML might possibly be realizing that giving her kids a stepfather who talks to their dead father’s spirit might not be the best idea?

I hope that the king holds on and enjoys good health because I think that without him, there might be few brakes on that relationship, and Goddess only knows what the shaman might manipulate Martha Louise into doing.

That would fit as he has representing himself in the past. But, even though nobody likes him (for good reasons) he is still a human being with a very serious illness. He had already a kidney from his sister in 2012 and it looks like the kidney doesn't work anymore, going thru dialysis 5 days a week is no fun! A dear friend of mine had to go thru this , had two donor kidneys, but finally died when the second kidney didnt work for her, at just 60 years old.
The pity is that he is publicly making such a big fuss about it, instead of just keeping quiet about his health condition.
