I wonder if this reception had been planned as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and had been kept in the CC despite the death of HLM? Or it could be a reception to thank those who organised/worked as part of the celebrations? Like the unveiling of the statue of the late Queen at York and the continuing of the Queen's Canopy initiative? The wording is indeed odd!

The Monarch usually gives a receptions after to Jubilee to thank everyone that help organize it, etc. IIRC, royal watchers said that the Platinum reception would take place in the Fall after the return of LQEII to London. As she passed, Charles hosted it now.

Thank you! The only pictures I’ve seen so far.

The itinerary for the upcoming state visit from South Africa has been released, and I must say I'm very disappointed in the minimal role William and Kate will play. They will attend the formal greeting. state banquet and events on the first day, but disappear for the rest. On the other hand, it is nice to dee the Gloucesters playing a role.

I view it as KCIII giving the various members of the BRF their opportunities to participate. The King, QC, and the Wales are present for the first day activities which are focused upon the higher profile welcoming the incoming HoS.

With a slimmed down monarchy I think we will see a 'all hands to the pump' approach going forward. Some leaders may think themselves hoity toity enough to only be escorted by the upper echelons of royalty, and some may go home impressed with how many of the family they met. Also, their schedules are put in place months in advance. Add to that the turmoil plans must have been thrown into with HLM death. It may be there were previous commitments for the Wales' and King and Queen. I for one am sure Charles would have loved to escort the President round Kew Gardens.

Good points Lady Liebe as I had not considered that the schedules for the members of the BRF would definitely play a role in who would be participating in the days' events. When the incoming visit from South Africa was initially planned, it was likely created to have QEII in her role as the HoS while Charles and Camilla would have been in the role of the as heir/spouse. No doubt everyone is still making the necessary adjustments to their respective calendars in the two months plus since the death of QEII.

The Kew Gardens engagement definitley sounds like it was tailored more to Charles' interests than Edward's.

That is normal. A State Visit to the UK is largely - royals on day 1, politicians on day 2 and the guest going to a place of interest on day 3. For Trump's visit, the last State Visit, Charles greeted Trump and escorted him to greet The Queen, then was at the informal lunch, hosted them to afternoon tea at CH, then the State Banquet and the return banquet that Trump hosted. Trump, being President of the US got the heir apparent for the return banquet but more often than not the return banquet, if there is one, has been the Gloucester's as the only royals attending. Andrew took Trump to WA to pay his respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior while the clergy escorted him round the Abbey while Andrew largely just waited (as per normal). After the first day the royals are largely not involved with the state visitors.

Thank you lc I guess I saw this itinerary and presumed this was another example of W&K shirking their duty, which I so hope is a thing largely of the past.

It would be nice if we got pictures for these things! Court circular Kensington Palace 17th November, 2022 The Prince and Princess of Wales, Joint Patrons, the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, this afternoon attended a Reception at Coutts and Company, 440 Strand, London WC2.

I wonder if the reason we didn't get pictures was that it took place on the same day as an Autumn Statement (i.e a new budget by the government) that made very very grim news for most. Pictures of W&C at a reception at the UK's most exclusive bank - you have to have over £1million in assets to even be allowed to open an account at Coutts - may not have played well in the press. Better to keep a low profile for once really.

I really don't see the point of a picture of William and/or Catherine standing around talking to someone and that is all that a reception is. I would prefer to see a link to the speech, if one was given, about the cause. This sounds like a fundraiser for the Foundation - a way for William and Catherine to get rich people to donate to the Foundation for them to then donate to a cause of their choosing. Personally I would give straight to the cause but if people only donate if they get a chance to rub shoulders for 30 minutes or so with a royal so be it.
