It would be nice if we got pictures for these things!  Real mad

Court circular
Kensington Palace
17th November, 2022
The Prince and Princess of Wales, Joint Patrons, the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, this afternoon attended a Reception at Coutts and Company, 440
Strand, London WC2.

I really don't see the point of a picture of William and/or Catherine standing around talking to someone and that is all that a reception is.

I would prefer to see a link to the speech, if one was given, about the cause.

This sounds like a fundraiser for the Foundation - a way for William and Catherine to get rich people to donate to the Foundation for them to then donate to a cause of their choosing. Personally I would give straight to the cause but if people only donate if they get a chance to rub shoulders for 30 minutes or so with a royal so be it.

I would love to see a more public/visible fund raiser. In the UK we have Children in Need (which was tonight) and Comic Relief as two nights a year where the BBC schedule changes to fundraise for the two charities. I think in a royal sense Vic has a similar fundraiser during the time of her birthday concert. It would be interesting to see how many members of Joe Public would donate to The Royal Foundation at a specified fundraiser. Give how much mental health has been a growing issue in the UK, I wouldn't expect the donated funds to be small.

I would imagine this is one of those events with extremely rich people who are very aware of protecting their privacy.

I would love to get some opinions on this "Day of Impact" idea that William floated the other day.  First of all, what exactly is it?  They have an engagement and in addition to showing up and getting the tour, they bring a check and present it to the charity?  There are so many things about this that rub me wrong, and it's not just because I am still hoping - and waiting - to be impressed by William and Kate.

1.)  It seems like it cheapens the dignity of their visits and makes them like game show hosts, or the guy from Publishers Clearing House, or even Oprah.  Do any other royals anywhere show up, check in hand, on their visits?  Is that really the raison d'être for a monarchy?

2.) How is it decided who gets money (why did the Ukrainian Refugee Center not merit a check) and how is it decided how much money is given?  How will they avoid hurt feelings and accusations of discrimination/etc. when Charity A gets 2x as much as Charity B and Charity C gets nothing?

3.) How much accountability is there for how the money is used?  We all know that charities have a reputation - sadly, often well-deserved - for not giving the bulk of donations to the actual work of the organization but rather to "overhead costs" and board members' salaries.  Is there any public "holding to account" to be sure the money isn't squandered?

4.)  Will every single Day of Impact gift be publicized?  In other words, how will it be ensured that this doesn't become a money-laundering scheme, so to speak?  Will and Kate show up to a "no pics allowed" reception at a phenomenally exclusive bank.  How will it be clear that they don't get donations from their cronies at events like this and then, lo and behold, the family foundations of these donors suddenly find themselves given a Day of Impact gift back?  We all know that if there is anything the British Royal Family doesn't like, it's financial accountability and transparency.   We also know they lack common sense (plastic bags full of cash, anyone?  Michael Fawcett, anyone??) and this seems like there are so many things that could go wrong.

I wonder if this is an attempt to deflect from the studies that show there is no measurable financial benefit to having a royal as a patron?

Really I'm just curious if I'm alone in being uncomfortable with this new venture.

They appear to want to change the approach.

Rather than visit and raise the profile in the hope of getting donations to the place/charity etc they want to raise the money first and turn up with the money and so be seen to be presenting the cheque.

I do think it is an interesting idea but I am not sure it will work. I certainly wouldn't donate to a cause until I saw evidence of the need and to me that is what the royals turning up will show me. Others will be the other way taking the view if a royal supports it is must be worthwhile so be prepared to donate in advance.

I do think having the royals turn up with the cheque does cheapen the royals as it will only turning up to causes that have already gained support rather than highlighting good causes across a range of interests.

It may work and it may not.

The books of the BRF are scrutinised annually so to say that they don't like accountability is wrong as the government scrutinizes the books annually and those accounts are freely available. The media likes to imply otherwise with dirt digging only to find that their dirt is inaccurate and that the government already knew e.g. the bags of cash - clearly shows up in the accounts; the dealings with the bin Laden's was cleared with the government before the money was accepted etc etc.

I don’t see anything to be uncomfortable about. Here’s more information about what is happening. They’re not just showing up with a check. They are adding the gravitas of TRF to partner with more grass roots, local organizations to help them raise money. They showed up to meet some of the people/organizations who will distribute and benefit from the money collectively raised and some of the local donors. I’m sure the t’s were crossed and i’s dotted before they involved TRF with Two Ridings Community Foundation.  I’ve read 50 different things about it so forgive me if I’m wrong but this is a grant type situation where money is spread out in grants helping small organizations in the community with smaller, targeted uses.

https://www.tworidingscf.org.uk/

“Niggel Jowett of In-site Property Solutions Ltd, who donated to the new community fund, said: ‘There is no shortage of worthy causes around here. ‘There are all sorts of hurdles and stumbling blocks for small charities so the Prince and Princess of Wales and Royal Foundation can help clear those obstacles which is important to the mental health of young people.’

Jan Garrill of the Two Ridings Community Foundation, added: ‘The donors are ordinary people who want to put something back.

‘The Prince and Princess of Wales put a spotlight on the work in the community to support hundreds of charities which wouldn’t normally get access to money. These are non-national charities, hundreds of local charities that can do a great deal with grants of just £5,000.”

State Visit

The Princess of Wales is wearing The Princess of Wales’ Feather Brooch 💎

It was firstly made for Queen Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1863. It was passed down and The Queen Mother then gave this brooch to Princess Diana when she got engaged to Prince Charles in 1981 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I'm happy to see her wearing the brooch today and at a high profile event. I wonder if she'll choose to wear it as a necklace pendant like her late mother-in-law did? As far as I can recall, Camilla only wore it as a brooch.
