I'm happy to see her wearing the brooch today and at a high profile event. I wonder if she'll choose to wear it as a necklace pendant like her late mother-in-law did? As far as I can recall, Camilla only wore it as a brooch.

How strange if Camilla has publicly worn a brooch that was Diana’s engagement present -  Anyone recall the occasions?

It is thought it was returned to Charles and/or TRF after Diana’s death. Camilla wore it first in 2006 per this link below.

Wow - it was a personal gift so I think it was tin-eared for Camilla to wear it.

Yes - agree that considering it was an engagement present to Diana not really appropriate for Cam to wear it. but fine for Kate to IMO.

But it was a gift in her capacity as Princess of Wales rather than to her as an individual.  According to this (https://www.regalfille.co...of-wales-feathers-brooch/) it was worn by Queen Alexandra as POW, Queen Mary as POW, The Queen Mother as there was no POW, Diana as POW, then Camilla as technically POW, and now Catherine.  The linked article claims that it's part of the Royal Collection to be worn by the Princess of Wales or in the absence of one The Queen (Consort).  If this is to be believed it was only "gifted" to Diana in the sense that she had first right during her marriage and QETQM extended that to her engagement as well.

This explanation is good. It’s not Diana’s personal jewelry. Camilla would not do that, I’m sure, but this piece goes way back and it’s appropriate for other pss of wales to wear historical jewels.

Personally, I like to see jewels moved around and give people the chance for more than one association with a piece.

I’d like Camilla to slowly wear some jewels lesser seen on QE2. Same with Kate.

And for gods sake, Sophie’s jewels are hideous most of the time, except for todays necklace. She deserves a trip to the vault. Lots of trips.

State Visit

The Princess of Wales is wearing The Princess of Wales’ Feather Brooch 💎

It was firstly made for Queen Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1863. It was passed down and The Queen Mother then gave this brooch to Princess Diana when she got engaged to Prince Charles in 1981 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I imagine the days are long gone when the ladies of a region raise money to buy jewelry for a member of the royal family.  (I also assume the days are long gone when a family will bequest their jewels to the royal family, such as the Greville jewelry.)

I wonder what else besides this and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara was "crowdfunded" in this way?

I do love seeing brooches!!

At the risk of going OT, here are some other "crowd-funded" tiaras;

The of course there's this, that was a gift from a shipping company!

I know that’s technically true- but it’s still tin-eared IMO…

My opinion is at the other end, that it was streched to consider the prince(ess) of Wales jewels as being Diana’s. Not at all, they go with the title or the person standing for the title - QEII when she was heir presumptive, Camilla when using the Duchess of Cornwall title.

Camilla was, of course, The Princess of Wales from her marriage to Charles until he became King. She was actually The Princess of Wales for longer than Diana was.

She looks very nice - hair, jewels and all, perfect, but an unfortunate effect of the cape dress and squared shoulders is to make her appear very stiff.

I agree, Hes.

Where did all the other baubles go? Taken apart? In the vaults?

The Dagmar Necklace is/was still in use, HLM wore it occasionally (usually without the cross pendant). http://queensjewelvault.b.../the-dagmar-necklace.html

Regarding the Prince of Wales feather's brooch, IIRC there were three that were very similar in appearance, two particularly so. There was some confusion which Camilla wore. I'm very busy right now with work, but will do a deep dive later to see if I'm just remembering incorrectly.

It does, thank you. It seems to me one is missing, though, one that is very similar to the first one you show. This was years ago, but we got down to the point that we were counting the diamonds in the frame to look for differences. I think it was on Royal Jewels of the World, I've been neglecting that site lately and need a refresher. Grin

Kate looks great but of course, it’s her Gold James Bond premier dress in a different material. Same tiara and other jewelry. All nice, all good, nothing great. Maybe that’s what she wants. But dusting off a tiara we haven’t seen in a while would be nice.

I wonder if Charles himself is in charge of the jewel vaults and makes the decision on who wears what.
