Theyve arrived at Aldershot for the annual St Patrick's Day visit to the Irish Guards.

New hat and coat dress on Kate today... I like it, I think. Feels less literal and like a step up/away from the heavier dark green she usually favours

I think the colour was chosen to match the Irish Guards's blue plume:

I just read today that St. Patrick's color is blue,  not green.

Yes, it is so. My colleagues say that the 'wearing of the green' refers to the wearing of shamrock and not the wearing of the colour green.
The Irish presidential flag is a harp on a blue (Saint Patrick's Blue) background.

Buttons are in groups of 4 same as the Guardsmen tunics.  Guess she won’t be repeating any of her old coats because their buttons aren’t grouped correctly.

This constant theme dressing is so vexing, unnecessary, unimaginative, and frankly beneath her given her position and years of “experience”.

I love the theme dressing!

New Zealand members could be forgiven for confusing Kate with an Air New Zealand hostie circa 1980! 😹

You know, in this case, as a new Colonelcy, I can set aside my side eye. Not only does the color reflect the blue of the uniform, so does her button pattern.

If she'd shown up in uniform, she'd get jeered - so, a compromise with the color and theme. It works.

ITA, all things considered, Kate did very well.

I didn’t understand the theme dressing (buttons, plumes) and now I feel it’s very thoughtful and took consideration. Now I think Kate and her dressing team was spot on. This would be a nice annual event for Kate to bring one of her children as well. It would be cute to see George drinking a non alcoholic Guiness!  I actually wondered why she is becoming a general at all seeing she hasn’t ever served in the military. I see William took Charles place with the Scottish guards, Camilla took Andrews spot…so it seems Charles wish for a slimmed down monarchy is taking its toll.

I hate the theme dressing usually but this feels a bit more thoughtful somehow (I can't explain it but feels more than "oh we are going to Wales, better find anew red outfit") That said, in a few years when we've seen every possible version of this colour and buttons I may well be sick of it.

She seems to have a system that works. She is always impeccable style thoughts aside and that's the main thing. I guess if the charge is boring then bring it on because she brings a steady as she goes energy to her engagements and clothes and that sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

All of the senior female  BRF members have honorary military appointments and were never active duty members of any service branch. Among the men, the majority did serve with the exception of Edward and Richard (Glouster).

It’s a largely symbolic role anyway. The military surely knows that and isn’t expecting any royal to weigh in on actual military decisions.

The men near Kate looked utterly charmed to have her nearby.

I think her teal matches the sprig of something on their hats.

Same, and I love a good excuse to theme dress myself. Different strokes I guess but this look is nice without being too on the nose as well.
