A lot of thought went into this coat so I hope Kate uses it again for future Irish Guards events, possibly with a black or navy hat and heels

Your optimism is adorable.

I think she will be able to rewear this to a number of Royal engagements.
She uses clothing to give a respectful nod to some events. Using colors or embellishments is fine IMO. Showing up in a fake uniform would not be fine. IMO.

It didn’t go unnoticed.

I agree, I think we'll see it again, and I second the black hat and accessories. She does do rewears, often after many years, but I hope we'll see this sooner than later.

If Charlotte has her mother's figure, she may also rewear some of Catherine's clothing, ala the Swedish ladies.

I have to say though, I hope little Louis is not outfitted in that lace trimmed shirt of Charles' for this coronation.

There is a symbiotic relationship between the UK military and the RF, steeped in years of tradition. As shown in Aubiette's post, her use of clothing to send a message did not go unnoticed, and she indeed charmed many members of her new battalion.

I didn’t understand the theme dressing (buttons, plumes) and now I feel it’s very thoughtful and took consideration. Now I think Kate and her dressing team was spot on. This would be a nice annual event for Kate to bring one of her children as well. It would be cute to see George drinking a non alcoholic Guiness!  I actually wondered why she is becoming a general at all seeing she hasn’t ever served in the military. I see William took Charles place with the Scottish guards, Camilla took Andrews spot…so it seems Charles wish for a slimmed down monarchy is taking its toll.

All of the senior female  BRF members have honorary military appointments and were never active duty members of any service branch. Among the men, the majority did serve with the exception of Edward and Richard (Glouster).

Thank you, TLLK. I didn’t know all the women had roles. I thought it best to have military background in order to be even a “symbolic” Colonel. But it looks like military background is not important. I thought they brought Kate in as they “ran out” of military royal family members. Thanks for the info!

It's not St Patricks blue though. Which is a royal blue.

It's a teal plume but still a nice nod and unexpected after years of green.

It’s still ridiculous, imo.

Given that Lorraine Kelly - a morning TV presenter - has an honory military role I don't see the issue with a future Queen having one. I grew up in a military house and have plenty of family still in the military and have never once heard anyone complain about it. I think at worst there is just indifference.

You know, in this case, as a new Colonelcy, I can set aside my side eye. Not only does the color reflect the blue of the uniform, so does her button pattern.

If she'd shown up in uniform, she'd get jeered - so, a compromise with the color and theme. It works.

great!

but will she wear it again next year or get another frock to match innumerable identical ones she already has? Thinking

Camilla seems happy to wear the same Rifles inspired coat for any events linked to them so there is no reason why Catherine couldn't make this her go to jacket now. If she chooses to mix it up she should use one of the very many green coats she has already worn. There is absolutely no need to have any new clothes for this event.

Meh…it’s their Christmas Card photo…same outfits. And the photos were old even then.  I’d like to see something new but I suppose we have to wait until May.
