I wonder how long until people photoshop things on to her dress. 😬

some other guests

(no introduction needed)

No idea - who is this person?

Annie Lennox, Scottish songstress and former Eurythmics front woman

Thanks for telling me that.

Have never heard of her or Eurythmics which is why I didn't know who she is.

I am not into popular music (never have been) - Mozart, Beethoven, Bach for me.

She’s a classically trained opera singer, like Pat Benatar.

Agreed! Normally I do t like that color green but it oddly makes the emeralds work. Normally I think greens clash with emeralds. This dress lets the choker shine. Hate the top of the dress and whatnot does to her boobs but props for being daring and unpredictable . I like the message of the rented dress and it’s different for her, so appreciate the stretching in her style.

The pictures of them walking in together, like they really like each other and are partners, “come on baby, it’s showtime, you’re awesome.”

I hate that green but appreciate it on her tonight. Feeling like a Kate sugar now. Probably also bc she just seems like a really nice person and has grown into her re beautifully. They both have.

This bit from Tom and Lorenzo is so well written, because it’s TLo of course, I have to post the quote. The topic is “paying tribute to ___ by wearing such and such jewels. In their post they are discussing Kates attire for the recent South African reception where she wore the bejeweled white gown with the cape style. That’s beside the point and I just love their  explanation for the wearing of royal jewels:

“As  per the uzh, the royal press is maintaining that Kate is wearing the Lover’s Knot as a tribute to Princess Diana (who made it iconic, to be fair), which prompts us once again to point out how that sort of reporting gets the whole point of royal drag wrong. It’s worn to signal her station. It’s worn to show that she either owns it or has access to it. It’s about the lineage it represents and the title it suggests. After all, no one ever suggested that Diana or Elizabeth were paying tribute to its original owner Queen Mary whenever they wore it. State occasions are not royal family dinners. Personal tributes aren’t really what they’re about. Pomp and pageantry and all of the trappings of imperial power are what they’re about. Everyone’s dripping in jewels in order to impress the high-ranking visitors they’re entertaining. She’s also wearing the badge of the Royal Victorian Order and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II; not as tributes or homages, but for the same reason generals wear medals: to show her rank. The earrings belonged to Diana and the pearl bracelet to Queen Elizabeth. We suppose we can’t convince anyone that they’re not personal tributes to each woman, but overall, that’s not how royals view jewelry. It’s about power and status way more than it’s about sentimentality. Her sapphire engagement ring is a different matter entirely, of course. “

I’ve been reading T&L for at least 15 years, and they’ve been pretty neutral on their royal coverage. Comments about the many many similar blue/green coats are totally warranted.

The “sweet tribute” thing has always annoyed me, regarding both jewelry and wardrobe.

"Royal drag", so true! Excellent explanation of the meaning of the jewelry. That's why old Queen Mary layered the diamond rivieres and emerald chokers and Alexandra the ropes of pearls, they were putting on a grand show. So was Kate tonight, and she knocked it out of the ballpark with this look.

I agree the dress isn't that great and the color is strange, but somehow it all works together and she looks fabulous. And Will looks really proud of her which is very sweet. There once was a time when he wasn't so attentive and tender. They have both grown a lot.

William seems to get it - in that photo he's the "consider your clothing", repeat.  Even down to the unbuttoned jacket.  Cute

Wonderful recognition... would be great for all of them to get a personal visit in the next year if possible

I don't like the green dress. It's too bright and at times you can see her undergarments.

It irritates me too that people (not on this board but social media) are fawning over the fact she hired a dress and are ignoring the fact she wore new, expensive, items for the rest of the visit, bar the chanel jacket, as well as that Kate has never hired a dress/outfit when she has had opportunity to do so and send a message about sustainable clothing in the last 11 and a half years of her being a royal.

Somehow I think it’s unfair. I presume the rental thing is not done as virtue signaling but as an example as what can be done.
Her having so many new pieces in her wardrobe -I’m ambivalent. The truth is that I don’t care. One of her tasks is to be photo candy. It’s shallow but it’s true. I don’t want her to become a Vikan.
