It will be tough on Marie, won’t it, not to have patronages and royal duties to perform any more? With the kids at school, and she isn’t really the “ladies who lunch” type. I’d be keeping an eye on her mental well-being if I were her family and friends. I hope she develops her own career - and is being given a working visa.

Marie has a BA from Marymount Manhattan college and had worked in US. I think she might be the one who wanted to move to US since for she didn't seem to like to live in Paris for whatever reasons.

Oh! Where were the reports that she didn’t like living in Paris - other than because Daisy and Mary don’t seem to want her in Denmark?

I don’t think Marie will have much trouble living in the US.

When she said that it was not their choice to move to Paris. If she loved living in France she wouldn’t have complained.

That doesn't make sense. You can love living a Parisian life and still be upset about why your family was pushed there. There was a lovely video of Marie and the children at the markets in Paris all helping to buy groceries. She has also said she is glad that her children are now comfortable speaking French when before they really didn't engage with speaking the language and mostly used Danish.

I don’t see that connection at all.

I am certain she likes being in France, but that is hardly the same as her not preferring to live somewhere else, especially if it was not their choice.

I hope this move brings peace and some calm to their lives.  I agree that America is a great place for her children to start forging their new identities and I hope she finds her niche too!  I'd love to see her bring her food-waste awareness to the forefront, as was mentioned upthread.  I remember the heat Jamie Oliver took about his attempts to make America's children healthier, but I don't see this going in that direction.  For one, I watched JO's shows and he was rude to the kids and their families.  It all smacked of him doing a poverty-safari rather than being genuinely concerned.  Especially since he was a little portly himself at the time.

Because many Americans are really struggling financially right now, her message could come at just the right time especially since she is not a flashy or extravagant person who would seem too out of touch.

Joachim could renew his position in France if his family liked to stay in Paris. There were talks of him even willing to take a private job in US which means he would have to give up his appanage. I'm glad at the end everything is working out for them to move to US.  He might get paid more in a private company, but there is always a risk. His appanage would certainly guaranteed comfortable upper middle-class lifestyle in DC. Likely Marie would be given the same job as what she has now in France.

Marie seems to be a person that can adapt easily and move anywhere. Joachim's older boys will probably be thrilled to be able to visit them stateside.

I was thinking about his older sons and where they permanently reside.

March 20
Danish citizens react to the Schack's news
It has been expected for a while, but the other day it was officially announced that Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are moving from France to the United States. The news has caused many Danes to react.

On 1 September 2023, Prince Joachim will take up a new position under the Ministry of Defense as defense industry attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington DC, where, as Denmark's representative, he will in the coming years help to strengthen the defense industry cooperation with the USA and Canada.

- "Huge congratulations to His Royal Highness Prince Joakim, fantastic to see that He is getting the recognition he deserves for his efforts for our country!"

- "A representative of Denmark we can be proud of. Congratulations on the new challenges."

- "It sounds like the right person for an important post for Denmark."

- "His Royal Highness will undoubtedly be a great gain for the Danish embassy in Washington, congratulations!”

- "You are super representatives of the Danish royal house".

- "Hope you have a wonderful time in Washington, with many good experiences for the whole family❤️🙏. You guys are so cool💪💪"

-"Congratulations - I am sure you and your family will do a fantastic job for Denmark"

- "Well done Prince Joachim, you (they) are really a skilled man, I have enjoyed the fine TV broadcasts they have produced. All the best of luck in the USA, I am sure that it will be a gift to Denmark that they are there👍👍"

- "I wish with all my heart that this will be a success for the whole family, they deserve it.🌞🐥❤️🌹"

- "then the 2 children have to start school there, without a surname and without a prince/princess title to explain it. Too bad for them. But hope it turns out well for them all."

- "You can hardly send a more competent person, Bravo, and big congratulations."

- "Congratulations on the job Prince Joachim. The only question now is, does HRH keep the appanage? It's not like he (or Marie) can just make a quick trip to DK and do something for their patronage"

- "Of course, he must have the apanage with him, he is a Danish prince and works for Denmark, anything else will be strange👍".

- "Great! Hope it is something you would like. And of course, the apanage must be included."

- "Good luck, I hope it will be a happy stay for everyone, it has You really deserve it”

- "Good luck to you - lovely family, hope you will be happy to be in the USA, but also hope you will one day return to Denmark".

- "I think it's a shame that their two children are being moved around like this".

- "It's a shame that the children have to be moved again".

- "Congratulations and thank you for the effort you make for us all🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰"

- "Congratulations on the job - but we would have rather had you back in Denmark, as part of the royal house."

- "Good luck❤️💙❤️💙. I hope the best for Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, as well as the children who will always be prince and princess to me."

- "Congratulations! Prince Joachim is the right person for this prestigious job. Hope the whole family settles in well there. Not least the children. It's quite an upheaval. But I'm sure Princess Marie will do her best to make everyone feel good. She is a gift to them and Denmark.❤️❤️❤️❤️🇩🇰🌹"

- "Good for Denmark. Prince Joakim is praised for his abilities and his efforts here in France."

- "I applaud that Prince Joachim, albeit at a rather late age, has found a meaningful path in life. Hope someone is taking notes for future twins like Prince Vincent and Josephine and Princesses Isabella".

- "Huge congratulations on the job and may the family be well. Hope you will consider making more TV programs about, for example, your work in the USA or other exciting topics or perhaps stories about the USA/Denmark/Danes. They were so amazingly good at telling stories and hosting the program.🌸🇩🇰"

- "Wish you all the best. Please come back home😘😘"

- "Best wishes for some great years in Washington. Hope you come home again🙂".

Now her 83-year-old birthday has become an occasion for the family to get together finally. Countess Alexandra's press adviser, Helle von Wildenrath Løvgreen, confirms that the two brothers will participate in the official celebration of Queen Margrethe and appear on the balcony with her on Sunday.

It will be the first time that Felix and Nikolai are together with their grandmother after she decided in September that they should no longer be princes.

In addition, Prince Joachim has previously told the newspaper that he will also come to the birthday party. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether Princess Marie and the children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, will also attend.

I’m glad Nikolai and Felix will be on the balcony but I really don’t understand why Alexandra’s PR person is constantly talking to the press about royal business.

TBF the Royal Court's press people seem just as chatty (just not about this specific issue) so I guess there isn't the more guarded approach other RFs take maybe. I don't see the harm in confirming the boys will be there at an already listed public event. (Though I agree the constant narrative during the title fall out was OTT)

Yeah, I think I’m mostly annoyed by this because of all that stirring the pot Alexandra did back then. So I’m not being generous now. In general I think if the boys are going to have a parent speak up for them about royal things Joachim would be more appropriate, and it would be a lot better if they spoke for themselves if they want to (Felix has never said anything about the titles mess).
