Apparently they had a reception / lunch all together to mark 9 days since Constantine died. By the way it is mentioned I assume this is of significance in Greek Culture / religion?

You're right.
We have special ceremonies in the graveyard in 3, 9 and 40 days and usually take place a little bit earlier. Then for 3 months, then for 6 months and then for the whole year after the passing.

Same here. Do greeks do the “giving of water” and “giving of breakfast” for the first nine or 40 days?

I don’t know in Greece but in cyprus all of us (expect Latins) give “koliva”, wine and some breakfast the first few memorials until the 40 days . Then after all the memorials family offers coffe and light breakfast to honor the dead

Yes, in Romanian it is also “coliva”. I make a mean one. And the wine. Coliva and wine and the candle is all that the church wants for the mass, then one can do whatever they want more: more food, clothes, donations to the church.

Well yes I mean MC is social hostess and will be always... but MO is just “tacky” as my mother would have said... of course not in public as that would have been inappropriate.... all that money 💰 and MC family could not have done better?

I'm wondering too but then... money cannot buy style and kindness (and common sense)

I don't know much about recent Greek history but I am wondering how long ago it was that the country had a king who was truly ethnically Greek. Seems like there have been a lot of rulers who were ethnically Germanic or Danish rather than Greek themselves.

Here's a profile of Constantine. They show behind the scenes footage from P and MC's wedding. Also they tour the grounds of Tatoi.
Tatoi is private property which was purchased by Constantine's ancestor using his personal funds.

After the 1848 recolutions almost all balkan countries got foreign kings. Most of them were chosen from among the german princes.

But, Tatoi was taken away from them, it belongs to the state of Greece nowadays. I still wonder that the present government let them bury ex-King Konstantine there, although it is not anymore their property.
