I don't know who chose her clothing for this trip, but to my eyes, she's dressing way too old and princessy.

And - like mommy, too much cleavage in this one. It is an official trip. I work in a very conservative environment - would I turn up in Amalia's dress my boss would send me home.

I get the impression more and more than Max plays an important role in what Amalia wears but without realising different people look better in different things.

Plus what's right for Max at her age is wrong for a teenager.

Amalia is a lovely young woman who seems genuinely interested, but there's such a chronic lack of confidence evident.  I don't know if it's the death threats she's received, or other insecurities, but some of these photos are as painful as Steph of Lux pre-Charles.  What strikes me the most is how often, in photos with her parents, she's nearly physically hiding behind them, especially the photo at the foot of the plane steps.  She almost appears more confident or happier when she's on her own.  Sadly, the clothing would be an easier fix.

I don’t “love” Amalias outfits, but I don’t think they are inappropriate at all. She is doing a working visit to a Carribean island. Even the yellow one that is a v neck, also has longer sleeves, is a long skirt, and she is even wearing a jacket. It is a bit low cut but it’s not like she is wearing a push up bra. I also think she looks happy and engaged.

Really, I tink what she wore is en par with what many young girls would consider a good option for such an event.
I mean it is Ralph Lauren, who do you think is his target group?

I think she is very shy, she has always been that way. And I think with a mom like Maxima and a sister like Alexia, being the shy and introverted type is just her role in the family. After all, I presume that you need a larger than life persona to be able to stand up against a mother like this.
However, I would imagine that she will eventually come out from under Maxima's shadow. Amalia strikes me as a very sensible and quiet person and they can be rather stubborn. So there is hope.

Oranges arrived on Bonaire for a tour of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Amalia have arrived on Bonaire, the starting point of their tour of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The royal family was welcomed by Edison Rijna, the island's lieutenant governor.

The three will stay on Bonaire until Monday morning, where they will visit the so-called slave houses, among other things. Enslaved people who had to work on the salt pans slept there. The small houses were built in 1850 and symbolize the history of slavery on the island.

Attention to slavery history
After Bonaire, Willem-Alexander, Máxima and Amalia will travel successively to Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba. In Curaçao they will visit country house Knip, on the former plantation where resistance leader Tula unleashed a major revolt in 1795.

The Oranges also reflect on the island's slavery past on St. Eustatius. The Government Information Service had previously announced that this theme would be central to the royal visit to the Caribbean.

The Oranjes arrived at Bonaire airport around 4:30 PM local time. King Willem-Alexander, who has a pilot's license, was in the cockpit as a co-pilot as usual

In addition to activities related to the slavery past, the royal party also visits sports institutions, cultural organizations and nature parks. Their visit to Sint Maarten is mainly devoted to the reconstruction of the island after the devastating hurricane Irma in 2017.

Thursday 9 February is the last day of the trip, which is intended, among other things, to introduce Princess Amalia to the Caribbean. It is the crown princess's first official trip.

State Secretary Van Huffelen for Kingdom Relations and Digitization will travel with the royal party.

Oranges step onto the dance floor when visiting Bonaire

With a day full of activities, which even included a dance, the royal family's visit to the Caribbean Netherlands has officially started. Princess Amalia, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima kicked off their day on Bonaire yesterday with Edison Rijna, who has been governor of the island since 2014. It is the first official work trip of 19-year-old Amalia.

The Oranges saw with their own eyes an important part of Bonaire's slavery past. They visited the slave huts on Witte Pan, where the enslaved people lived at the time. There they learned that the young generation nowadays dares to discuss the subject, while in the past it was often kept silent about it.

Climate change at the center of lunch
During lunch, the royal delegation spoke with residents of Bonaire, among other things about agricultural development and poverty reduction. Influencer Meralney Bomba was invited to dinner. The 31-year-old Bonairean draws attention to climate change, which could result in large parts of the island being flooded in the future.

"It was an honor to be invited to this," she said afterwards. "The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was open to listen."

For the rest of the day, the royal family became acquainted with Bonairean traditions, and Amalia seemed to find her way. During a visit to the Nos Zjilea festival in Cultural Park Mangazina di Rei, they tasted local specialties. Amalia also helped bake sandwiches according to a secret family recipe, even though she warned in advance that she was rather clumsy.

When the Leerorkest then started the music, the Oranges took to the dance floor. Amalia and her parents joined arms with the locals and danced to the music together.

A few dance steps later, another visit to Sorobon Bay was scheduled. They attended a windsurfing demonstration there and toured the mangrove area. The trio discussed nature conservation in the coastal area with the Junior Rangers of the National Parks Foundation.

The day ended with the Taste of Bonaire event, where local dishes were on the menu. King Willem-Alexander was fanatical about a game of Bon Ku Ne, a card game that resembles bingo. Finally, Amalia and her parents attended a concert, where there was again cheerful clapping and dancing.

The visit of the royal party will last from January 27 to February 9. Today Willem-Alexander, Máxima and Amalia have a day off. After Bonaire, they will travel to Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba. There, too, plenty of attention will be paid to the slavery past.

I think she looks beautiful, and that yellow dress suits her. I must say I'm large on the girlies front so I always wear v necks as high necklines make them look even bigger.

She does look shy and overwhelmed though. It must be daunting to do a first overseas engagement like this, especially given the controversial, colonial aspect to it. Hopefully with time comes experience, and I'm sure she will one day become a Queen as stellar as Grandma Beatrix.

Maybe having an extrovert as a mother in Max has meant that Amalia has found it hard to gain confidence in her role as its easier for her to hide behind Maxima (and may also be prevented from shining by Max). Its interesting comparing the confidence between Amalia and Elisabeth, who has two grounded parents in comparison.
