Weddding of German nobility in Austria today. Amalia looks beautiful!

https://www.gala.de/royal...er-hochzeit-24119302.html

So far, Amalia has demonstrated that she's only very good at dressing up. This wedding, various birthday parties, her appearance at a state dinner .... she knows how to look glam.

Otherwise, her public appearances are few (considering she's now an adult) and when she makes them, she doesn't appear confident and engaged.
Compared to Elisabeth, Leonor, and even Ingrid, Amalia is utterly underwhelming.

OT, but what a handsome couple.  Nice bouquet, pretty dress ... I think they look much better than the Westminster couple did recently.

I don't like the poofery on Amalia's shoulders, - it adds more to her wide frame & should be avoided - but that blue is her color. W-A looks scruffy faced, perhaps he already hit the bar 🍸 ... Maxima  Roll Eyes has to draw attention in an entirely red ensemble!  But, she does look more high-fashioned than many of the noble guests

This is OT, but I didn't know in which thread I could post it.

The bride, Leonie von Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems is the great great great granddaugther of the famous empress Sissi of Austria-Hungary

Well, she looks good. What seems to be a problem with all Dutch nobility is that they are a bit "uppish", hence Amalia doing well in noble circles. The worst of them is Eloise, I follow her on Instagram and she is so full of herself, showing off her privilege that it is really disgusting (IMO).

I fully agree with you on this. However, I would say this wedding is a different case because the bride is Willem-Alexander's goddaughter. She was also a flower girl at his wedding to Maxima. So relations must be very close and it makes sense for Amalia to show up.

So far, she lacks she lacks proximity to the people and the ability to approach people openly. We will see how this develops. She seems a bit "uppish".

To me she seems a bit shy… that she is a bit uppish is probably not strange, are not most of her parents friends uppish as well and then she is probably friends with their children.

In addition to this, I also wonder if being dressed up helps her feel more confident and at ease. Amalia has dealt with a LOT of body shaming over the years, and she may feel more confident in her appearance and less vulnerable to body/appearance shaming when she's in a glam outfit with her hair and makeup done very nicely than when her appearance is more casual. I feel more confident about my appearance when I've gotten dressed up nicely for a wedding than I do going to work on a random Wednesday where my hair looks a bit greasy because I didn't have time to wash it the night before, so it could be the same for her.

I would agree to that. And, the criticism about her not doing enough as a future hair, engaging herself such as other young hairs are doing , might be because of her predominant mother. Maybe Maxima doesn't encourage any engagements, either because she wants to be in the limelight as long as possible or she doesn't trust her daughter to make public appearances of her own, knowing about her shyness and her feeling  uncomfortable.
The parents will best know her daughter and her present state of mind and might have decided to give her more time to develop self-confidence. Which IMO is the right thing to do.

I think she is shy and just slower to come into her own than her sisters and that's ok. She has a bigger weight on her shoulders. I do like that she seems to feel confident in herself when in tiara and gala gown. That bodes well. If you don't know who you are deep down you can't fake it with all that extra glitz it will outshine you.

Personally I wonder a bit if especially Maxima who seems to be quite the extrovert is quite able to fully understand how CA is. But it’s easy to be a backseat driver here.

I’m very happy I’m not the mother to a royal heir.

"all Dutch nobility" is quite a statement when you're only talking about some daughters in the royal family.
Dutch nobility consists of abt 10,000 people in over 300 families, quite a few of them older than the current line of monarchs (which started in 1813). I have met/know/am friends with members of at least 50 of those families, both young and old, and every single one of them is very well-mannered, friendly and not at all uppish. The 'noblesse oblige' is real, them being active in all kinds of voluntary service. Yes they own vast tracts of land, castles, art, money but you wouldn't know from just looking at them.
Amalia happens to be the heir to the Dutch throne, so even if her family were boorish, she'd still be top dog one day.

I suspect there are rather practical reasons behind Bea allowing her sons to marry clever commoners (much like Margrethe 'made' her sons marry non-Danish women), one of them being to avoid gossip among all the noble ladies/mothers.

Much like te BRF are basically Germans, our RF are basically Germans. Norfolk a.o. are much much older (and 'noble') than the house of Windsor (S-C-G) even though they can trace their royal ancestry back for centuries. The DRF do have close and trusted friends among the Dutch nobility, but also quite a few among the German (former) nobility.

For many decades we had a royal family consisting of just 2 parents and an only child. Only when Beatrix and her 3 sisters birthed a total of 11 grandsons and 3 granddaughters to Juliana, our royal family exploded. These 14 grandkids have gotten at least 31 great-grandkids. Only a handful (basically Wax/Max's daugthers) are in the line of succession. The rest all got a proper education and work, (though oftentimes having the right surname opened doors to high paying jobs, investments and whatnot).

Ppl know about Beatrix's grandkids because they are the Triple A's, Friso's kids, and first grandchild Eloise and her siblings. Ppl know about Margriet's 4 sons because they are a bunch of competitive men. The rest are obscure, apart maybe from the illegitimate son of Irene's son Carlos. Idiot Eloise is the only one blatantly making a fool of herself.
