King makes a working visit to Heerlen-Noord
News item | 21-02-2024 | 11:00

His Majesty the King will pay a working visit to Heerlen-Noord on Wednesday, February 21. The working visit focuses on the National Liveability and Safety Program.

The National Program Heerlen-Noord is part of the National Liveability and Safety Program that started in 2022. Heerlen-Noord consists of fourteen neighborhoods with a total of 56,000 inhabitants, 69% of the total population of Heerlen. Over the next twenty-five years, residents, companies, governments and social organizations will join forces to work together towards a better future. The aim is to revive the old pride of the past in one generation.

After an introduction to the National Program Heerlen-Noord and an introduction to the alliance partners, the King meets various residents of the district. The King then walks through Heerlen-Noord. The walk starts at the Maankwartier where King Willem-Alexander receives an explanation from the police chief about the security challenges of the neighborhoods. At the renovated Aurora residential building, King Willem-Alexander talks to a resident and the director of the Wonen Limburg housing association. The Aurora residential building has been renovated by the housing association together with residents and artists and the living environment has been improved. The King then walks to the Sittarderweg. This street used to connect Heerlen with Sittard via six mining sites and was an important artery of the city. Nowadays many buildings are dilapidated and there is crime. The program director explains how they want to renovate the street by striving for a balanced mix of residents, 'living without crowding out'. King Willem-Alexander visits a couple who have lived in Heerlen-Noord for decades in a former head supervisor's home. During this conversation, the focus is on the change in the district. The King also visits a former supervisor's home where a young family talks about their choice to live in Heerlen-Noord. Finally, King Willem-Alexander visits a primary school where he meets teachers, parents and children and where he talks about various initiatives such as the extended school day and the neighbor's newspaper. These initiatives aim to give children a better start and combat inequality of opportunity.

In the National Liveability and Safety Program, the government, together with municipalities and other local parties such as housing associations, healthcare and welfare organizations, schools, social organizations and employers, is committed to improving the quality of life and safety in twenty focus areas in nineteen cities. to offer residents perspective again. The Ministries of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Education, Culture and Science, Social Affairs and Employment, Justice and Security and Health, Welfare and Sport are investing to tackle the accumulation of problems in the relevant focus areas. Special attention is paid to better public housing, preventing youth crime, tackling poverty and debt and improving the quality of education. A total of 1.2 million inhabitants live in the twenty focus areas.

In October 2020, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima received various mayors in the context of vulnerable neighborhoods.

RED:
The Eastern Mining Region is a region in Dutch South Limburg. The name 'mining region' dates from the first half of the twentieth century when industrial coal mining of the coal present in the Limburg soil got off the ground in the region around the towns of Kerkrade, Heerlen, Hoensbroek, Brunssum, Eygelshoven and Schaesberg.

On December 1974 the last two coal mines were closed. In the period from 1970 onwards, attempts were made to restructure the economy. This was largely successful, but the region was no longer among the most prosperous areas in the country. In 1975, the four municipalities of Heerlen, Kerkrade, Brunssum and Landgraaf had already ended up at the bottom (of the list of 570 municipalities) of the high-income rankings. The replacement employment was mainly concentrated in industry and non-commercial services. Since 1980, the region's economy has suffered heavily from increasing competition from low-wage countries. Many jobs in industry also disappeared during this period.

"The National Holocaust Museum gives victims of the Jewish persecution in the Netherlands a face and a voice. It makes the stories sensible of people who were cut off from our society. Stripped of their rights, declared free, arrested, jailed, separated from their loved ones, murdered. (... ) Come to this museum. Bring your children with you. Your grandchildren. Listen to the stories. Take note of what happened. Keep it in your head and heart. ” – King William Alexander

Update: 16 hours ago

King Willem-Alexander does not plan to watch the series about his wife. He informed Shownieuws on Wednesday. "Then I start to get annoyed by things that are not right."
Yet the king also had words of praise for the series. "I have heard that it is a beautiful series that is well put together. But I am not going to watch, because then I will be annoyed by things that are not correct. And that is a waste of the beautiful product."

Queen Máxima said on Tuesday that she has "not yet had time" to watch the drama series.

The Máxima series is about the queen's life up to her engagement to Willem-Alexander. The leading roles are played by Delfina Chaves and Martijn Lakemeier. A second season has already been announced.

The first two episodes of the series have been on Videoland since Saturday. The series was streamed a record number of times on its first day.

King surprises 100-year-old Fie at home after influencer's call: 'A promise is a promise'

Influencer Kiki Bosman shared the message on Instagram on Saturday that 100-year-old Fie's birthday wish has been fulfilled. The Amsterdam native, who recently turned a century old, wanted King Willem-Alexander to keep his promise and visit her on her birthday. So that's what the king did.

Show editors 25-05-24, 15:07 Last update: 25-05-24, 15:33

Four weeks ago, Bosman appealed to the king via her account. “When you are 100, I will come to you,” Willem-Alexander had said to Fie, as she recalled in a video from April. "Now I wanted to call him and say: 'A promise is a promise'." Bosman then called on her followers to share the call as much as possible and to persuade the king to visit Fie.

The king has kept that promise, it turned out on Saturday. A friend had forwarded him the video with the call, after which he decided to drop by. “We hugged, it was great,” Fie says to Bosman in a new video. Willem-Alexander also brought flowers and posed on the couch with the centenarian. The royal family's account responded to the message with an emoji of a bouquet of flowers.

King opens former Hermitage, museum starts with Kandinsky exhibition

King Willem-Alexander will open the H'ART Museum, formerly known as the Hermitage, on June 18. At the same time, the first major exhibition about the Russian-French artist Wassily Kandinsky will also start there.
The Hermitage previously collaborated with the State Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, but severed those ties after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the renewed H'ART, the museum now collaborates with the British Museum, the Center Pompidou and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The Kandinsky exhibition was made possible thanks to ties with the Center Pompidou in Paris. That museum has one of the largest Kandinsky collections in the world. A large number of works of art are coming to Amsterdam.

With the opening of the H'ART Museum, King Willem-Alexander follows his mother's example. The then Queen Beatrix opened the Hermitage in 2009. Willem-Alexander and Máxima were present.

Primary school children are also involved in the opening. They followed a special education program. Willem-Alexander also speaks with two young artists and meets some employees and sponsors of the H'ART Museum.

The Kandinsky exhibition can be visited from June 18 to November 10.

King Willem-Alexander reward Richard Krajicek with honour medal

King Willem-Alexander has awarded the Premature Access Palace at Noordeinde Palace to former top tennis player Richard Krajicek. Krajicek received the award for his decades of social commitment through the Krajicek Foundation. The foundation is committed to developing a healthy lifestyle for young people.

The award for prolongance and ingenuity is rarely awarded and is not a royal award as we know it from the annual ribbon rain. The King can grant him himself without involvement of a minister.

In 2023, the honour medal was awarded for the first time in 23 years, then to Sadik Harchaoui, who is 'chef de mission' by Stichting SchldenlabNL. The honourary medal was awarded to the former CEO of Unilever, Floris Maljers.

Other people who were given the medal are former Prime Minister Van Agt and Den Uyl, resistance fighter Bill Minco and architect Pierre Cuypers.

RED:
Richard Peter Stanislav Krajicek (born 6 December 1971 in Rotterdam) is a former Dutch tennis player of Czech origin. In 1996 he won the Wimbledon title in the single game, which is considered the most prestigious title in tennis. He is the only Dutch tennis player who won a grand slam tournament in the single game.

Krajicek has been married to ex-photo model and writer Daphne Deckers (1968) since 1999 and has two children.

Krajicek was born a year after his parents, Petr (1942) and Ludmila Krajíček, had fled from Czechoslovakia. Dutch tennis player Michaëlla Krajicek (1989) is a half sister from the marriage between his father and another Czech woman.

King visited helicopter exercise TAC Blaze in the United Kingdom

His Majesty the King visited the TAC Blaze UK helicopter exercise at Carlisle Airport in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, June 19. This exercise by the Defense Helicopter Command focused on training in tactical low flying in the event of a radar threat and avoiding enemy radar systems.

The RAF Spadeadam Range in Northern England has real radar systems that can simulate enemy threats to pilots. Different units and helicopter types train from tactical scenarios. In the training area, which covers approximately 300 hectares, the helicopter crews can train at low altitudes and use self-protection equipment to 'deceive' enemy radar systems. A total of ten Apache combat and Chinook and Cougar transport helicopters, along with an air force detachment of approximately 400 soldiers, are participating in the exercise. In addition, the exercise is supported by air force reservists and soldiers from 11 Air Mobile Brigade.

King Willem-Alexander received an explanation about the purpose and importance of the TAC Blaze exercise and subsequently flew in an Apache attack helicopter to get an impression of a training flight. He also spoke to fighter pilots and employees of support services about their work.

I wish very much that King Willem will attend at least one of the football games of the EM in Germany.
It is so very important for the teams to see how their royals are in support of them.
