Apparently the Dutch pub 'De blaffende vis' (literally The Barking Fish) has a special sign for Kingsday every year. This year:

Max finally git the memo: on Kingsday you wear something outrageously silly on your head, and nobody bats an eyelid because everybody wears something silly on their head.

And in true Max form it is a themed headpiece, and I like it.

Those historical pictures are great. Thanks Principessa. The Dutch do have a well developed sense of humor. It’s great.

Hello, what is the theme of the Queen’s headpiece? Is it butterflies? Thank you!

It inderdaad seem to be butterflies.

Apparently it is, according to one source, a reference to the well known zoo in Emmen. It had various names,  but is in its current form known as Wildlands. I have visited the zoo various times myself. And one of the know items of the zoo was (and I believe it still exist) a butterfly garden. An indoor space where you could spot and walk through /past several butterflies

A Dutch (middle aged/older) lady magazine Libelle had an item about Kingsday fashion, the route and what about other participating members of the DRF (f.e. cousins of WA). And some nice Instagram message about WA and Kingsday
