After being on the subtle side with the Spanish visit, Maxima went crazy and glued some lily pads to a headband.
The family looks lovely.

Yes the girls are lovely and and so so tall… the messy ungroomed blond man in an illfitting suit following the four royals around on the other hand…

I love it, from the epic pub signs to all the tomfoolery to Max's butterfly headpiece. What fun! Max is rocking a 50's retro look with her sweater, gloves and skirt. Amalia looks lovely too - understated, but still lovely. Wax really needs to actually grow the beard out or go clean-shaven. The scruffy look does not suit him.

It doesn't matter how old you get, buying snacks for a road trip should always look like an unsupervised 9-year-old was given $100. Anonymous

Of the huge signs on the pub building, I loved the OMATRIX the best. What a great play on words!

I loved that one, too! Oma, matrix, Beatrix...and the image of her in that suit was hilarious! They were all pretty darn funny.

Lovely turnout today! I think everyone looked really nice. Ariane in particular looked really appropriate for her age and the occasion. Developing an Italian fashion sense Personally I felt that Maxima was kind of overstepping the mark today with the attention seeking. Upon arrival in Emmen, she got off the coach first, shaking the mayor's hand before the birthday boy got the chance to do so. After W-A talked to the local press, she literally demaned the microphone and basically elaborated on what he'd said just before. And she was VERY keen on winning the traditional quiz about the host town and its surrounding area. Even got her cellphone out to look up the answer to one of the questions.

Max finally git the memo: on Kingsday you wear something outrageously silly on your head, and nobody bats an eyelid because everybody wears something silly on their head.
And in true Max form it is a themed headpiece, and I like it.
except that Maximum says that memo is for everyday G

ANDREW DENTON: Yes. What did... When you first met, what did you see in each other? CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK: What did we see in each other? We saw... Well, it's a bit hard. It's a bit blurry, in a way, because it was just after the Olympics had started and it was one of those evenings where...

In the Magazine Majesty there is an article about how Frederik and Mary makes it look like a joint Reign, but Maxima constantly treats its like she is the regent and is continuing the tradition of the Queens in the Netherlands. It might be seen as modern and so on in an archaic instution, but I dont think many would like if the wife of the new president in Finland was constantly overshaddowing the head of state…WA is the head of state but she shows litle considerstion for it with her flashy style and the biggest diamonds on every occasion, and makes him look like a secretary…She cant take all the blame though, he could start looking the part and give his wife some hints… As a quizz lover I hate it when people cheat with their phones, what is then the point…

The family in general didn't seem very happy with Máxima's reaction when she won the quiz either. https://twitter.com/Chris...tatus/1784169494102859878I believe that Willem Alexander no longer has a solution, the problem is that her daughters are young and she neither lets them shine nor is she a real support for them at public events. Amalia seems to have a relationship of affection and complicity with her father, but on more than one occasion she has been seen making "mom stop being ridiculous" faces. This moment seemed a little strange to me. I think that the questions that the journalist from the official channel asks them are perfectly prepared in advance, that the girls know perfectly well what they are going to ask them and how to answer... Alexia has always seemed less shy and has even starring in a solo event before her older sister, however she is constantly glancing askance at her mother. I don't know if she seeks her approval, or if she is afraid of saying something for which she could be reprimanded. https://twitter.com/Chris...tatus/1784197975834533942However, she looks at her father more smiling and relaxed. https://twitter.com/Chris...tatus/1784198777630237009

I imagine for the girls, at the age they are now, this event must be true horror show, I cant imagine many teenagers and 20 year olds that would think beeing the star in such a show is anything fun, especially if you a bit introvert or unsure of yourself which is very normal at that age and with so many people staring at you.
Im not really sure the questions are prepared, there are not all news channels that would accept such a demand but the topics might be agreed. Answering live tv questions is something else than reading a prepared speech and looking a litle bit unsure I think is normal even if you are an self assured person.
The quiz reaction to winning puts the expression of beeing a bad looser and a terrible winner into new light… her team mate Aime seems to share/thank the team? behind them, whilst Maxima looks like she won the olympics by herself…

I guess WA doesn’t mind (or has given up trying )but its not the point. I’m not advocating the 1 step behind ala QE2 but let the guy go 1st on his birthday at least,

WA should represent the Netherlands and he should be #1. His wife constantly puts him in #2, so it is like she is opening questioning his leadership skills in public. I like the family photo (I am not familiar with Dutch customs, so I don't know if the hat is appropriate or not) but at least nobody was posing or wearing a ridiculous outfit. I hate it when Max constantly laughs so loud that her mouth is wide open.
