I think equating Max's very outgoing personality in public with taking over as head of state is a bit of a stretch. It's not like she's trying to take over at council meetings or something.

Personally I felt that Maxima was kind of overstepping the mark today with the attention seeking. Upon arrival in Emmen, she got off the coach first, shaking the mayor's hand before the birthday boy got the chance to do so. After W-A talked to the local press, she literally demaned the microphone and basically elaborated on what he'd said just before. And she was VERY keen on winning the traditional quiz about the host town and its surrounding area. Even got her cellphone out to look up the answer to one of the questions.
In the Magazine Majesty there is an article about how Frederik and Mary makes it look like a joint Reign, but Maxima constantly treats its like she is the regent and is continuing the tradition of the Queens in the Netherlands. It might be seen as modern and so on in an archaic instution, but I dont think many would like if the wife of the new president in Finland was constantly overshaddowing the head of state…WA is the head of state but she shows litle considerstion for it with her flashy style and the biggest diamonds on every occasion, and makes him look like a secretary…She cant take all the blame though, he could start looking the part and give his wife some hints… As a quizz lover I hate it when people cheat with their phones, what is then the point… It really annoys me that Maxima does this. I guess WA doesn’t mind (or has given up trying )but its not the point. I’m not advocating the 1 step behind ala QE2 but let the guy go 1st on his birthday at least, I really wonder what happens, when WA abdicates.

That quiz behaviour was cringe.

She brings glamour and brains. He has great social skills and a genuine interest in people. However, everyone knows their reputation was severely damaged during the pandemic and they're still skating on thin ice. They need to find a new approach.

Bye-Bye MEDiana Who!!!!

WA should represent the Netherlands and he should be #1. His wife constantly puts him in #2, so it is like she is opening questioning his leadership skills in public. I like the family photo (I am not familiar with Dutch customs, so I don't know if the hat is appropriate or not) but at least nobody was posing or wearing a ridiculous outfit. I hate it when Max constantly laughs so loud that her mouth is wide open.
you know there is a fine line between an extrovert and a deeply insecure person who tries to cover it up by being loud and in your face a la mamimum. jmo. G

ANDREW DENTON: Yes. What did... When you first met, what did you see in each other? CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK: What did we see in each other? We saw... Well, it's a bit hard. It's a bit blurry, in a way, because it was just after the Olympics had started and it was one of those evenings where...

But apperently she took her phone out to calculate.Instead of looking something out. It seems, also based on previous experiences, that the family is competitive. According to the story Amalia read a lot about Drenthe, Emmen and such before the visit

Personally, I was very positively surprised by the youngest, Ariane. She has really grown into her appearance, it really suits her. Ariane is a beautiful lady with a friendly, almost sweet appearance.

Alexia gets a lot of flak, purely because of how she comes across to a lot of people. Maybe because of her appearance, maybe she is a bit more shy or related, but I notice that most people find her (somewhat) arrogant. That's not really based on knowing her, but rather on people's impressions of her.

Every year it's the same story during the Kingsday broadcast. "Alexia is the latina among the three princesses. Lots of temperament. The queen said she is either laughing or crying. Not much in between." Well, Maxima did say that, seventeen years ago when Alexia was a toddler. Those days are long behind her now, but I guess she'll be stuck with the latina reputation forever. Not really fair to her. She's obviously no wallflower and there is definitely a sense of entitlement, but her position as the spare is not easy. She's allowed to make mistakes and figure out what she wants to do with her life.

Alexia strongly reminds me of all these super feminine and beautiful actresses on the soap operas - and I don't say this in a negative way. She's sooo beautiful, she has star quality but I hope she won't go the influencer way because it's so cheap and everyone does it nowadays. I love the dress she wore on Kingsday!
