Enpress Michiko has commented on her difficult life as Empress. Her answers were written in prepared responses to questions submitted by foreign journalists.
Apparently she struggles to feel confident and each day has to cope with sorrow and anxiety. Sad

Avise - you beat me to it - I was just about to post that article.  I am amazed that she was allowed to express herself so candidly.  Thinking

Do you think that the IHA have allowed her to do it after the recent negative press they have received? Certainly amazing  that she has been allowed to make such present personal feelings public, though we already know about the initial depression after joining the royal family.

Avise, I don't think the IHA cares about the bad press they have received.  In fact, they never get good press - so why change now?

I am simply stunned by it and have to ponder..... Confused Crazy

You are probably right- very unusual that they are not seemingly in control.

Thanks hanzo.
Masako looks really young- is she feeling much better now I wonder? And Aiko has that wonderful serious look on her face as she is checking everything out. Smiley

if we will just look at pictures, i guess i can say that Princess Masako is slowly regaining her self confidence.

It's very nice to see that. It seems as though the birth of Prince Hisahito has taken a lot of pressure off the Princess. Although I do wonder if she's growing her hair so as to be different from Princess Kiko. Grin

i was wondering of that too. but masako sure looks good in long hair, makes her look more youthful. compared to mary who puts too much make up, like a kabuki actress as one poster here puts it, masako has very light make-up and still manages to look young. must be the light make-up or her asian genes though.

as for kiko, she seems to be the only japanese royal who doesn't have a problem of the grey men in the court. she seems very eager to step into masako's shoes.

Well, the birth of her son means that she probably will. It's very nice that such a scenario seems to suit both her and Masako.

She really does look young - partly it's her outfit, but you could think she's a schoolgirl too!

this is constitutionally not possible, unless naruhito will renounce his title. which i hope he wouldn't so that when masako becomes empress, she can then go with him everywhere and shine.
