How is she 16 already?!? Wow, I feel old now. I remember when she was born. I thought she was one of the cutest babies I’d ever seen.

Happy birthday Aiko. I wish her a long and happy life.

Aiko looks good and healthy, that's very good to see.

Although it's grossly unfair I am happy for her that she's not the heir. I hope she can get a free life, doing what she enjoys to do.

I'm so frustrated that the Emperor has to wait a year & a half to finally step down.  He is obviously getting too old and tired to do what he is suppose to do.  Why make him suffer longer??

The Imperial Household Agency probably hope he will pass before he can step down.  Then the Succession will have happened "naturally".

The big question is whether or not the Emperor will pass naturally during this time period because I wouldn't put anything past the IHA.

I didn't see this mentioned previously but....
Prince Akishino was interviewed for his 52nd Birthday last month and in that article it is mentioned that Princess Mako's upcoming wedding date will be November 4, 2018.   Champagne

I have my own thoughts about Kiko and I think as traitorous as her move to have another child at her age to ensure the succession has been perceived, it can also be seen as a huge relief, almost a gift to her sister in law: it certainly  took the pressure off the cp and her "inability" to conceive another child. There was IMO no way they would have changed the succession to allow Aiko to the throne.
I actually quite like Mako, she looks lovely and she seems to have her won life, so her parents seem to have done something right here, Mako has been independently choosing her career and her husband, so either the grey men couldn't care less about the girls (what a relief for them) or the parents have managed to shield them.
About Aiko: I hope she is getting better: the last pictures we saw of her were painful. She was almost skeletal thin and looked sick. Now she has gained a lot of weight to the point where she is almost chubby. I hope she finds her way.

Princess Mako of Akishino attended the awards ceremony of companies and organizations that contributed to urban greening and the like held at the Meiji Memorial Hall in Minato-ku, Tokyo. In the awards ceremony on the 4th, companies and organizations that achieved outstanding results in promotion of green city development and rooftop greening technology were honored.

I think she is so pretty! There’s something about her facial features and her vibe that is just so pleasing and likable.
