Former Emperor Akihito temporarily lost consciousness and collapsed at his Tokyo residence on Wednesday but a subsequent medical checkup found no abnormalities, the Imperial Household Agency said Thursday.
It is said that the Emperor collapsed at 6:30 pm on the 29th at his home in Fukiage-Sendong Imperial Palace and temporarily lost consciousness. This means that the Empress who was nearby called a physician with an emergency buzzer while supporting the Emperor's body, and after a while after starting the examination, the Emperor returned to consciousness.
Isn't Michiko undergoing treatments too? I'm praying for the health of these two.
A fall at the Emperor's age is not a small thing, I hope they can find the cause and prevent any more. Thank goodness the Empress was there to summon help but that had to be a shock. Sending them both best wishes.

Lovely princess. Such a pity and a waste !! All these Japanese princesses do a magnificent job and they get kicked out and erased from the family register if (they are allowed to) marry.
ITA. Sadly I don't have much hope that this will change any time soon. I will admit that I don't know much about the Japanese royal family, but do they have the power to change the succession laws or does this power belong to a governing body? Can they change how the women are treated in regards to titles, marriage, etc?

The JRF themselves have zero power. They are controlled by the Imperial Household Agency. It would be up to the IHA and the government to change the treatment of the princesses, the succession, and basically everything.

Thank you! I do feel sorry for the women in this family.

Sounds like he's better, but I don't really trust these pro royal communications. They're most often too positive.

Seeing them billed as the “crown prince family” irks me to no end.

I agree. And Kiko always looks sedated to me - maybe she doesn’t really like it either?

Thank you for this. It is a shame, but maybe a blessing, that Aiko cannot succeed to her father. Either way, I cannot stand Akishino.

No news, but an older picture, which is sooooo sweet: Empress Michiko hugs a child during a visit to the Mytyl school -- a special education school for physically disabled children -- in Amsterdam 24 May 2000.
