Japanese Prince Akishino and his daughter Princess Mako visited a folk museum in Budapest on August 19, 2017, prior to her engagement announcement in Sept. Princess Mako is scheduled to announce her informal engagement with commoner Kei Komuro, a former university classmate, on Sept. 3. Their wedding is expected to take place next year. The Imperial father and daughter are visiting Hungary on their private trip.

He looks like he's only growing half a mustache! She's lovely Smiley

I wonder what she has to do to prepare to be a private citizen, that must be an incredibly tough transition

She looks very happy Smiley

Does this mean they practice Christianity? Or was it just for school training?

They look so happy, good for them!

Wishing them all the best.

I hope she can start dressing like a normal person and not a Japanese Imperial Family Stepford royal...

I don't get why they bother giving Japanese Princesses titles at all, only to strip them once they marry. It's pretty obvious they are going to marry commoners. Their laws certainly need a good change.

you have a point, is there even any non-commoners to marry? I thought the JRF was severely depleted thanks to restrictive marriage and male line rules?

She looks happy Smiley I hope they can have a nice life. I tried to imagine being put in a situation from complete reliance on someone running every aspect of my life, to doing it all on my own. It's got to be very, very weird

I agree, it seems like punishment for daring to have a marriage.

I'm a great fan of Japan and everything Japanese, but not this... It is indeed a very bizarre system - to strip a royal-born of a title because of a morganatic marriage and at the same time bestow a title upon a commoner who's been married into imperial family... Hmm... Go figure... Thinking

Love and happiness to Mako and Kei! Champagne

Wasn't this female demotion practice an acquiescence to convince the Americans to let them keep their Imperial family? I think it was so the Imperial Family wouldn't grow back as big as it had pre-war.
