Were I Masako, I would have my ears pierced the day after the abdication.

The Japanese court freaks me out. They all seem like robots and their get togethers always look like a cult ceremony. You know, the emperor and empress do not look like evil people, and why they sanctioned the awful treatment of their daughter in law is abolutely beyond me. Like is it a rule that the crown princess must be tortured in that family?

I wonder if the empress is also not similarly tortured?  Maybe Michiko just hides it well.

From what I read Michiko wasn't treated any better. She just succeeded in the only thing that seems to be important for a japanese empress: Giving birth to two sons.

Something Masako failed. That's most likely the only reason why Michiko is now treated better than her dil.

Oh, everything they both have had to bear!! They still have. The good thing is that they seem to have been supported by their husbands.

They're such a sweet couple together. I hope they'll be able now to enjoy a long happy retirement together.

The Emperor and Empress really don't have that much power. The JRF is so different to other royal families.

A few days ago, outside the I. Palace. Sorry if it has been shown. Yes, Michiko is holding her husband all the time. Mutual support.

Such a sweet and cute couple, those two. Hopefully they can enjoy some beautiful, nice years together (while not being emperor and empress)
