Arrest team Belgium corners DJ for alleged pursuit of Princess Amalia
Four Amsterdam residents were cornered and taken away at gunpoint by an arrest team in Belgium, because they allegedly drove the exact same route from Amsterdam to Antwerp as Crown Princess Amalia. One of the occupants was radio DJ Serginio Piqué of NPO Blend.
That happened earlier this month. Images of the arrest quickly appeared on social media, but today Piqué tells about the incident for the first time in Het Parool via his lawyer Vito Shukrula.
NOS also spoke to the lawyer, who says that Piqué drove with his friends in a rented car from Amsterdam to Antwerp for a night out on the afternoon of Friday 2 August. Their car was cornered by the police on the Frankrijklei in the Belgian city.
Footage of the arrest shows officers holding Piqué and his friends at gunpoint, shouting at them to kneel. They are then handcuffed and taken to a police van, where they were interrogated for an hour, according to lawyer Shukrula. During the interrogation, Piqué and his friends were told that they had taken exactly the same exits as Amalia. Lawyer Shukrula is surprised that this makes them suspicious. "There are only a few roads on which you can logically drive from Amsterdam to Antwerp. They drove the most logical route from the Singel in Amsterdam that was indicated by their navigation." He does not want to say exactly which route this was.
It is unclear how far the men drove from Amalia. According to Shukrula, his client did not see her and he was not told where she was. The Amsterdammers believe that their skin color was a factor in what happened to them and that there was ethnic profiling.
'Misinformed' During the interrogation, Piqué was told that the Belgian police acted on the basis of information that came from a Dutch service. Afterwards, officers are said to have said that there had been a misunderstanding.
"The Belgian police chief eventually told my client and his friends that they were upset that the Dutch services had given them incorrect information and that they had therefore deployed on such a large scale for nothing. They were told that at least they now had a good story," says Shukrula. After the apology, Piqué and his friends were allowed to continue on their way.
The Belgian police confirmed to the NOS that the arrest followed a tip from a Dutch service. "It concerned a situation in which the Crown Princess was involved, something that we must take seriously. We therefore had well-founded reasons to carry out the check in such a way," says a police spokesperson, who does not want to say anything further about the action.
Apologies from the Royal Family According to Shukrula, the tip in question came from the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service (DKDB), which protects members of the Royal Family. "If the DKDB had not given this information to the Belgian police, none of this would have happened. That is why we are addressing the Royal Family about this. It is not without reason that the Belgian police state that they acted on the basis of information that came from the Netherlands."
The service does not want to confirm whether the information that the Belgian police received actually came from the DKDB. "We never say anything about security and measures," said a spokesperson.
Shukrula is considering possible legal action. "We first of all hope that the Royal Family will come up with some form of recognition, satisfaction or apology for the suffering that his client and his friends have suffered with this violent and disproportionate arrest."
Serious threats In October 2022, it became clear that Amalia had been subjected to serious threats. As a result, she was forced to live at home and could not go out on the streets.
Princess Amalia lived and studied in Madrid for over a year due to her safety situation. She now lives in rooms in Amsterdam, where she continues her studies. Amalia also indicated in previous conversations that she was having a very hard time because of the threats and that she missed her normal life.

I think its slightly scary that a person can be arrested for simply driving the same route between two major cities as a royal. I get being careful with royal's security but I it sounds like a heavy handed response - armed police arresting someone, hands behind heads on the floor - maybe just stopping them and seeing if there was a good reason they were following the Crown Princess might have been better. Or Amalia's car should have taken a unnecessary turning then seen if they'd still be followed. Maybe they did this but nothing is said about it so would be interesting to know if they did or not. if not it seems like a bit if overreach to me.

I feel like most kids and children her age now know how to pose the heck out of it. I am not comfortable with her being dished on because she’s pretty and comfortable in her own skin

I feel like most kids and children her age now know how to pose the heck out of it. I am not comfortable with her being dished on because she’s pretty and comfortable in her own skin Even my almost 10 year old Lil' P will pose up a storm - apart from the occasional candid shot she's always looking good. Check the last picture on the first page of that photo series: Alexia does not look glamorous *at all*.

https://www.nu.nl/achterk...-ik-probeer-het-eens.htmlLoosely translated as: Prince Pieter-Christiaan wins money during radio game: 'I thought: I'll give it a try'
By our entertainment editors 11 Sep 2024 at 13:40
Prince Pieter-Christiaan won money during the morning show of Radio 538. He won the highest possible prize in the radio game Start the day with a nice amount. The son of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven will donate the money. "Is this a prince?", asked radio DJ Tim Klijn in surprise. "I thought: I'll give it a try", responded Pieter-Christiaan.
"This is bordering on cheating", said the rest of the radio team from the studio. But the Dutch prince emphasized that it was "not a set-up" and that he just wanted to participate for once. He gave the correct answer to the question and won a cash prize.
If a listener answers the question correctly, the DJs spin a wheel with amounts between 25 and 538 euros. The 52-year-old prince's wheel came to the highest amount.
The prince immediately promised that he would donate the money. The amount will go to Stichting Laureus, an organization of which he is chairman. The foundation wants to make sports accessible to children with mental and physical disabilities.RED: Prince Pieter-Christiaan is the 3rd son (of 4) of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Prof Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven. Via his mother he is a grandson of Queen/ Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, a nephew of Queen/ Princess Beatrix and a cousin of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands

Celebration of 80 years of liberation in the Netherlands starts in Limburg Mesch
In Mesch in South Limburg, the start of the liberation of the Netherlands was commemorated. At the ceremony in the village, in the presence of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, there were performances and stories were told about how the liberation in the Netherlands began.
There were speeches by Limburg governor Emile Roemer, mayor Alain Krijnen and Derrick Deetz, the second cousin of the first American soldier killed on Dutch soil.
Deetz praised the ties between the Netherlands and the US and the role the Netherlands played in the history of the United States. "Our countries have been connected in freedom for 400 years." This was followed by a procession of American vehicles that rolled through the village just like 80 years ago.
Remembrance year On this day in 1944, the village was the first in the Netherlands to be liberated by the 30th division of the 117th regiment of the American army. The liberators landed on the beaches of Normandy three months earlier during D-Day. From Mesch, the Allies advanced further into occupied territory, including Operation Market Garden, which began on September 17, 1944.
The ceremony in Mesch is the starting signal for the remembrance year throughout the country. In the coming months, the liberation will be commemorated in the run-up to August 15, 2025. That will be 80 years since the Second World War ended.
Tonight at 7:00 PM, the program 80 years of liberation can be seen on NPO 2.

This kind of behaviour is exactly what damages their reputation. They went to Greece for one night only because the next day they appeared at the State Council dinner.

It is hard because on one had - its a memorial service for a friend, its no bad thing they turned up and if they had skipped either state event to make their stay longer I'm sure they would have been slated for missing an official event for a private trip. But on the other, they flew all the way to Greece for one event which is quite over the top in itself, then factor in they did so on a private jet at a cost of £32,000, which is the definition of jet set and lavish.

I think they died if they do, die if they don’t - no winning for them here. Busy couple of days, though and they put in good appearances.
