She was not a family member, she was a social friend and it was not even her funeral but a show in her honour. I think it's just one more example of how Máxima is disconnected from reality. For me, the worst thing about this gesture is that this summer Máxima and Amalia did not abandon their holidays in Greece to attend with Willem Alexander the event for the 10th anniversary of the attack on flight MH17, when 10 years ago the king and queen had already been criticized for not reacting quickly to the tragedy because they were on vacation in Greece. Now for a show in honour of her millionaire friend, she hires a private flight and travelling between the Netherlands and Greece is no problem for her. Her priorities do not seem to be in the right place. Of course, it seems that Mariana gave her a ring with a huge emerald for her 50th birthday and that is something to be thankful for.

Flying to Madrid to spend the weekend with Amalia. Flying to Wales for Alexa's graduation. Flying to London to help Alexia getting settled at uni. Flying to Italy to see Ariane. Flyting to Italy to spend Easter with grandma Beatrix. Flying to Buenos Aires regularly to spend time with grandma Zorreguieta and bro Martin. Flying to Germany to spend time with the Von Amsberg side of the family. Flying to Vienna to spend time with bro Juan. Flying to Greece for vacation. In my view, these things are all fine because it's part of their family life. Ideally they would fly much less but I understand that not everyone cares about their carbon footprint.
However, I do have an issue with flying to the other side of Europe for 1 or 2 nights. Or taking the plane to Brussels to buy more dresses at Natan. And it's not the first time they do this. Like, every year they can't wait for the King's Day festivities to be over so they can hop on a plane to Greece. They are intelligent people but their priorities are not in order.

Prime Minister considers side jobs of King's family to prevent 'tension'
The cabinet wants to consider exactly what work close family members of King Willem-Alexander will be able to do in the future. This concerns members of the Royal Family who do not receive an allowance from the state, such as King Willem-Alexander's brother, Prince Constantijn, and his wife Laurentien.
A discussion arose this summer about her work for parents of the allowance parents. As a result, Laurentien eventually gave up her job.
Prime Minister Schoof acknowledges that future tasks must be considered, also because Princesses Alexia and Ariane will also have to work themselves later. "It is very important to consider the side jobs, also for future generations", according to the Prime Minister.
Submit The non-benefit-entitled members of the Royal Family must earn their own income, but they do fall partly under ministerial responsibility. They are not allowed to say or do everything in public, and must submit their activities in advance to the responsible minister. But what exactly is or is not said or done is not recorded anywhere.
Schoof needs time to think about the subject, he said in the debate. "We must prevent them from coming to oppose the cabinet", according to the prime minister, who speaks of "inherent tension". "But I recognise the importance." He also speaks of complex matters.
Discomfort In the debate, it was mainly the government parties VVD and NSC that raised the issue of the side jobs of the non-benefit-entitled members of the royal family. Government party VVD notes that "discomfort" has arisen about the situation in recent times. VVD MP Aartsen does not want to mention names, but believes that these members "should not become part of a political discussion".
Government party NSC does speak openly about Princess Laurentien and Queen Máxima, who have made statements about the digital euro, much to the annoyance of the Ministry of Finance. "There is discomfort in society and we must prevent that in the future," said NSC MP Six Dijkstra.
Criticism This summer, Princess Laurentien was criticized for the way in which she, through the foundation (Gelijk)waardig Herstel (SGH), committed herself to an alternative handling of the childcare allowance affair. She openly criticized the approach of the Ministry of Finance and reports emerged about improper behavior. People also wondered how it was possible that a member of the royal family was involved in such a politically sensitive subject. The third Rutte cabinet fell over the allowance affair in 2021.
The VVD wants a "committee of wise men" to look at the "tasks, responsibilities, size and composition" of the royal family. NSC wants an "external" advisory committee.
In front of the bus The SP has difficulty with the request from NSC, because of Princess Laurentien's efforts for the affected allowance parents. NSC MP Six Dijkstra emphasises that there was some discomfort about who was responsible for dealing with the king's sister-in-law: the prime minister or the state secretary for benefits. "It is not my intention to throw Princess Laurentien under the bus."
Income During the debate on the king's budget, it also became clear that there is no majority for the PVV proposal not to increase the king's income by 78,000 euros in 2025. Parties such as GroenLinks-PvdA and D66 believe that this is not legally possible and find it too easy to cut the king in this way.
Furthermore, there is dissatisfaction in the Lower House that this cabinet also does not intend to have the king pay wage and income tax, as a large majority of the House has been demanding for some time.

Nice visit. Once I was working in Eindhoven and decided also to go to some events of the Dutch Design Week. It was very interesting! And certainly worth the visit.

Nice visit. Once I was working in Eindhoven and decided also to go to some events of the Dutch Design Week. It was very interesting! And certainly worth the visit. Sounds great! I really feel that this is the kind of stuff the Dutch royals should do more often, casually visiting these interesting events outside of their usual bubble. Just putting on my cynical head here - some Dutch tabloids like 'Royalty' and 'Story' have recently reported that Maxima and Mabel are not on friendly terms anymore. I wonder whether this some kind of damage control? In any case, I believe that Mabel is still very much part of the family and that's heartwarming.

Influencer Eloise was a contestant on the first round of the Dutch version of The Masked Singer, performing as the 'Wolf'. Unfortunately, her rendition of Dua Lipa's 'Houdini' was not great so she did not make it to the next stage and had to reveal herself. Why all the attention seeking?

Because she has no other qualifications?
