Thanks for the answeer

Make me wonder why those royals (their government behind for sure) go where they are not welcomed and their presence could be ill interprèted?

My pessimistic response is that they don't bother to learn about the country they're visiting beforehand. And maybe there is some resentment that royals seem to treat Kenya as an exotic, glamorous holiday destination without much regard for helping the thousands of impoverished people there.

Kenya was a colony of Britain, and perhaps one of the more vocal countries regarding the right for independence and anti-colonialism. The Mau Mau Rebellion in particular is a dark chapter in history and sadly exemplifies colonial attitudes towards native people.

Wow, Amalia looking stunning here!

Sorry, but this little joke of a veil (gives me sexy widow vibes  Dead) is completely inappropriate for the occasion.

I agree with you about the inappropriateness of the hat to the occasion but she does look terrific. Yes she will be borrowing Mom's accessories until she has a better established style and wardrobe herself but Max or someone should have guided her toward a more somber style. It does kind of give withered widow "mourning" her fifth husband lol. A look in this case saved by her own delightful face.

I don't think Max is the one to teach about sombre or subtle clothing as she is the Queen of OTT. From the few photos I've seen I think Max, CA and Mathilde are the only women to have worn a hat. I think Amalia looks radiant and beautiful, and if other women has worn hats I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. I think the hat frames her features perfectly.

That "veil" is very weird for the occasion, something more conservative would have done the job. But at least she is out and doing engagements and looking really good.

Yes, the veil in combination with the Barbie make-up was not the best choice. But she’s allowed to make mistakes.

I am also a bit conflicted about Amalia being there. On one hand, her attendance confirms that Willem-Alexander took it seriously when he apologised on behalf of his family and predecessors for not sooner acknowledging the suffering of the Jewish people during the German occupation of the Netherlands. The fact that both the head of state and his heir remembered the brutal torture and murder of so many innocent men, women and children at the hell where these events took place is really significant.

On the other hand, I am still confused as to why Amalia still has not attended the commemorations on Remembrance Day (4th of May) in the Netherlands. She has an important role to play there on behalf of her generation. I think if would been wise if she had attended the ceremony on Dam Square a couple of times first, before going abroad.

Yes and no. She is entitled to mistakes. On the other hand, she is not 13. This is a sombre occasion. Common sense would have told her that her make-up is not suitable. But then - Max is totally tone-deaf there as well.

I think it is good that she is there. This day will always be a special day, also, after the few old people that were inmates are dead it is even more important to keep the memory alive. However, there was no reason not to attend the Dutch Rememberance Day as well.

Mary also wore a hat.
