1. I like that their NY reception isn't actually on New Year's day or close to it. The Danish NY reception is really inconvenient for everybody. Guests and hosts alike have to cut their winter holiday short (or interrupt it) to attend on NY day. Makes traveling for holidays really difficult.
2. Alex's green dress is awful. There are cape dresses that are stylish. This isn't one of them. Too much fabric and it shouldn't cover the front bodice - especially if the fabric isn't sheer. She might as well just wear a green bedsheet, but a bedsheet might be more stylish since it would have to be draped on one side. But at least this might be a new dress and not a hand me down.
I'm feeling not very hopeful about her upcoming wedding dress. Alex has such poor taste in clothes.
3. Stephanie is actually the best-dressed. Her ensemble looks "lightweight". MT and Alex's outfits are both heavy handed.
4. Louis' looks is improving as he ages. He's gaining weight so his face doesn't look so gaunt and his body doesn't look so lanky.
5. If this is a white tie event (the most formal), guests should be required to wear formal clothes (or at least what is formal for their respective culture). A lot of the women are in cocktail attire. If that's the case, they should just downgrade it to black tie or cocktail. If it isn't a formal sit down dinner and just a cocktail reception with mingling and drinks, it really needn't be white tie.

Poco, please explain to me the difference between coctail and formal attire. I thought the women's attire was formal.

thx

From the wiki:
White tie ... is the most formal in traditional evening western dress codes.[1] For men, it consists of ... white piqué waistcoat and the eponymous white bow tie worn around a standing wing collar. ... Women wear full-length ball or evening gowns with evening gloves and, optionally, tiaras, jewelry, and a small handbag.
Black tie is a semi-formal Western dress code for evening events, ... It is worn with a white dress shirt with standing or turndown collar and link cuffs, a black bow tie, ... For women, an evening gown or other fashionable evening attire may be worn.

I define cocktail attire as semi-formal wear. Men wear suits and women short party dresses. What's typically worn to weddings, semi-formal receptions, nightclubs back in the day when young people would dress up.

So the LRF are all wearing white tie - gala gowns, tiaras, and all. And hardly anyone else is - at least not the women. In contrast, everyone is in gala attire for the Danish NY evening reception.

BTW, Alex's green monstrosity is an Oscar de la Renta. That is the ugliest ODLR gown I've ever seen.

New Year's reception

Stephanie's gown is by Seraphine which specializes in maternity clothing. Their US website shows this gown at $445 US dollars.
"In this beautiful sage green gown, we've paired the luxury of silk with delicate lacework to design a truely stunning dress for non-traditional brides and bridesmaids alike. A tie back empire line waist flatters in every stage of pregnancy, while secret nursing access makes breastfeeding and expressing easier."

Alexandra appears to be wearing the Oscar de la Renta green draped cape-effect stretch-silk crepe caftan gown. Seems to be a fairly recent purchase but I can't find a price. Looks much too old for her. This is the first time that she has worn the Chaumet Emerald Tiara.

here is a bit of a clearer photo

It's a nice dress but the perfectionist in me wants to straighten that sash belt and tuck the zip end out of the way

New Year's reception

The purple is quite nice on MT but the proportions of the dress are just bizarre - long sleeves, the dress either having a drop waist or bunching somewhere near her thighs, that high flat torso... it will probably look a hundred times better when Alex or Stef are forced to wear it in five years time

Stephanie has never been into fashion and will never be! She is just not the type for it. To me she is looking a bit exhausted, tired. Who knows how her second pregnancy feels like? She might be worried about a second caesarian section (which is not easy) and being in her own world of hoping for a second lovely healthy baby!

An official meeting as this is probably just burdensome for her. She is not that tough like Leti or Kate, and there is nothing wrong with that IMO

I really hope for her that she will have an easier birth than the first time and have another healthy child, no matter if boy or girl!

When I first saw Alex's look I thought she'd hopped over to the UK to borrow Eugenie's wedding tiara, then I remembered seeing MT in an emerald tiara! It looks completely different (and for the better) on Alex. She looks beautiful, a modern princess look imo.
It makes me wonder what tiara she will wear for her nuptials! I'd be surprised if she followed Stephanie and Claire's suit of wearing Elie Saab, I think a classic design by a French Designer would suit her well.

Look this is a weird family - she and brother went to some apparent right wing Catholic "university" in some nowhere place in mid west US or wherever ..... I don't think it has any academic standards as such ..... so a place to park them away for a few years. At the same time Louis and wife were over (MT yet again) and Gui got married and then Felix. Gui I think is happy and Felix too - but Claire does not need their money and stays away .... basically me and my children are not a photo op for MT. The Lux RF has loads of money in trusts but family of Claire has no restrictions ... so her daddy can spend how he wants. She will get half shared with her brother. MT is toast with her and Felix knows who pays their bills.

As for the Lux family - shady much as that of Henri's sister that married into the one next door - in Lich .... wow .. these people pick their targets for sure

About Henri's sister Margaretha, I always assumed it was a love match.

She and her hubby Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein seem to have a solid match.

Even as there is a 10 year age gap between them.

Not at all surprised la grand sulk continues and no MT in Latvia. TBH I'm more surprised she didn't try to push in to the Sandhurst Sovereign Parade.
