Having lived in the same country, gotten married the same year and seen each other the last 10 years in many family gatherings, I would think that they have something to talk about rather than Mosh and MC, who I would surmised must have met each other only a handful of times. Beside, IMO, MC, being a socialite for the past 20 years would see-through Mosh's fake personality a mile ahead. Wink

Plus Tino, Nikolai, Aki and Felix were all born within a few year span so it's very possible that the boys are friendly and look forward to seeing each other too.

But aren´t Daisy´s family gatherings, reviving the good ol´times, a pretty new thing  Confused Or is it just new to get the PR machine running and to call a photographer?
However MC and Mary had now enough time to mingle and to see, if there is sympathy...

Yes, I recall that it did seem that Alex and Marie were friends.  That alone will probably keep Mosh from becoming friendly.

I'm sure that all of the CPs know about one another's backgrounds, so MC knows where Mosh comes from.  She's probably still wondering how the hell she got to be a CP!   Crazy

Actually it is one of the oldest traditions in the DRF to gather at Fredensborg
and in later years at Graasten in the summers. All the way back to King Christian 9
and his daughters Alix and Minny. Queen Ingrid had all of her grandchildren and later
great-grandchildren to come and visit in the summers, hence their very closeknit
relationship. Nikolai was at Graasten, playing quite noisely with his greek cousins
when Felix was born. I think the DRF is quite intend to that all of the children get
close as in the days of Queen Ingrid.

I found a picture of Queen Ingrid with all of the grandchildren.

By the way. To all guests: You have to be logged in to see the pictures!  Wink

According to Wiki, MC's grandmother, née Squarebriggs, was a governess.

You don't need to have read Jane Eyre or Jane Austen to know that the social rank of governesses was zero.

Many people, those at least not blinded by the Miller billions, would wonder how the grand-daughter of a governess became a kind of pseudo CP...a title she doesn't rally have claim to but nevertheless claims.

One thing I did like about her was her so publicly being friendly with Alex at the Christeneing, when Alex was already being ostracised by the DRF.  BUt MC probably figures correctly that with the info and money she has, even if her title is fake, she has power over them and so she does what she wants.

ALso, it was MC who tried to push her friend Gigi Howard onto Felipe.  Her judgement of who would or would not be acceptable as a CP was then, at least, seriously flawed - GH being tolerated by his parents for an even shorter time than Eva was!   Crap

Well she might be the granddaughter of a governess but she grew up with wealth so in the social circles she runs around, I don't think that matters.

Besides I don't think Constantine would be demanding to have in-laws with impeccable background knowing that he is a King without a country.

I don't know...it's true that in the USA, money = class, but this is very much not true elsewhere in the world...where there exists, rightly or wrongly, a snobbish disdain for the self-made man, one wag having commented ("Glad to hear h'es self-made...that absolves God of any responsibility".)   Laughing Laughing

I agree Con would not have a problem having her as a DIL.

I simply question that she had or has much judgement on who would be a good CP (as was alleged), based on her failed promotion of her buddy Gigi Howard as Felipe's consort.

What in the world is the matter with being a governess? They may not have the social
standing as fishermen ( Moshs kinfolk ) but it was a respectable profession for young
women who lacked the monetary means but came from respectable families.
Having read Jane Austen and indeed Charlotte Bronte ( Jane Eyre ) I should have thought you
were above belittling such hardworking women?  Huh?
If you read a little bit of English history you would know most governesses came
from noble families hard on their luck or clerical families with too many children.
Unless you regard it as being a flaw to be poor or the daughter of a priest
I fail to see your point. And if Marie Chantals ancestor should indeed be "a commoner"
then I sincerely doubt any normal people would question this.
"It seem all that you accuse him of is being the son of a steward..."
"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.

And regarding MC having a false title. Is this debate not getting a bit old?  Snore
I gather the election that stripped the Greek Royal Family of their title was
entirely fixed - both elections that is!  Sad

Not everyone agrees that money=class in the U.S.  Donald Trump has money but it's safe to say that not one person with the Trump name has an iota of class or good taste.  I won't even mention the Hiltons except to say 'Yeah, right!'.

Gigi Howard has a lot going for her.  She and Felipe enjoyed each other's company for some time so there was at least a little compatibility on a personal level.  At any rate, Gigi's far better than Eva Sannum, who was recommended to Felipe by another blood royal.  Anyway, who's to say who would be good or not?  I have little or no confidence in any of the current crown princesses.  Only time can determine this.

i would have to say yes to this. but i still think Princess Mathilde and Princess Masako can do it, given the chance to prove themselves.

Exactly where am I belittling governesses?  I agree with everything you say about their worth - but it's not my opinion that counts or counted.  I am talking about their social status at that time.

I disagree wbout the GRF though.  They would have much more dignity if they just stuck to the titles which are officially recognised.

I agree, UB: but I do think that the two are conflated to a degree in the US that is not the case elsewhere.  That's natural, as "old Europe" has or had a landed aristocracy two look down on what it considered vulgar slef-made types.

I also am not criticising Gigi, merely pojnting out that the SRf did not take kindly to MC's opinion that she was a worthy consort for Felipe, rightly or wrongly.  This is the only instance anyone probably knows of of Mc putting in her oar on the issue, and she screwed up "royally".

Officially recognised by whom? A socialistic non-democratic regime?   Tongue
Anyway you claim that you do not belittle govs?
How about your own words:"Many people...would wonder how the
grand-daughter of a governess became a kind of pseudo CP"
By many people I gather you mean you? I really cannot imagine
anyone in this day and age getting a faintingattack because
someones grandmother was a governess! Who are these people?
Under which rock may I find them in the inlightened year of 2007!  Grin

Now I am confused. Are we still ignoring each other?
