BTW, this is why, all over the world, tables are set with the knife facing in towards the person's plate and not out at his adjoining dining partner.

At the September 20, 1792 Battle of Valmy, Louis Philippe of Orleans (future King Louis Philippe I) was ordered to place a battle of artillery on the crest of the hill of Valmy.

Ludwig Pfyffer, Swiss military leader, persuaded King Charles IX of France to trust himself to the Swiss guards. Pfyffer safely lead the royal family of Charles IX from Meaux to Paris while under Huguenot attack in 1567.

Louis of France (1661-1711) was the eldest son and heir of King Louis XIV. He became known as Le Grand Dauphin after the birth of his own son, Le Petit Dauphin.

Catherine de' Medici had King Charles IX, at the age of thirteen and a half, declare his majority before the Parliament of Rouen on August 17, 1563. The next day, to show he was God's anointed, he touched for "King's Evil".

In May 1420 King Charles VI of France and King Henry V of England signed the Treaty of Troyes, which named Henry as Charles' successor and stipulated that Henry's heirs would succeed him on the throne of France.
