The Daily Mail has a mad little article on Queen Frederica, who I’ve never heard anything good about, but still I’ve never read such dish on her before. Given that the Daily Mail is always wrong, I’d love to hear what more knowledgeable Dishers think about it. Especially the claims about her being a member of Hitler Youth and having an affair*with the head of the CIA.

* or possibly just a “diplomats with benefits” arrangement
The Queen Frederika-Allen Dulles story has circulated for years and years and years. So, The Daily Mail isn't making up the story out of whole cloth. Now, how much truth there is to the story I cannot say. Frederika was widely disliked so there would have been plenty of people who would have delighted in spreading a story like this regardless of whether it was true or not.

Frederika's participation in a Nazi youth party is well established but she was not an adult and Germany was well on its way to becoming a totalitarian state. While Frederika was strongly autocratic and anti-democratic, I don't think she was a quasi-Nazi.

What's interesting about this story is . . . why publish it now? These tales about Frederika are old news. Why is the Mail dredging all of this up now? Who are they trying to embarrass?

Thank you, that’s very interesting! I think they are doing some deep dives into the Greek royal family (they have some articles on Prince Philip and and interesting one on his mum https://www.dailymail.co....her-revolution-Freud.html ) because they are starting a new royal podcast? Even they must get bored with the endless goop they write about the current members of the BRF so maybe history is here to save them from tedium?

It interests me that the DM (and indeed the British press as a whole) are happy to print family trees showing how QE2 and Philip were third cousins through Queen Victoria they never seem to print family trees showing how QE2 and Philip were also second cousins once removed through King Christian the 9th. That always gets brushed under the rug even when they are focusing on Philip’s past as a Prince of Greece and Denmark.

They can't cope with the double connection on a family tree  - they like nice simple pictures that look pretty

With all the recent developments in Denmark, I've been thinking about Anne-Marie.

I'm sure Anne-Marie is happy for her sister who, after a 52-year reign, is now free to "assume the citizen". But at the same time, I have to imagine Anne-Marie is experiencing feelings of disappointment and regret knowing that her own son will not become a king the way her two nephews - Felipe and Frederick - have. Does she look back at the mistakes Constantine made and wonder as to what might have been? Or has she long since resigned herself to life as it is and no longer wastes energy on what will never be?

King George I of Greece bought the Tatoi estate, at the edge of Mount Parintha from a government minister. He ordered it to be redesigned in a St. Petersburg style.

So who owns Tatoi now?

Thank you. Do they look after the upkeep too? I saw an interview with King Constantine and Annemarie giving a tour of the property and it was in total disrepair. Does the Greek government use it for anything?

It's about to be a museum! It's going through renovation and preservation, inside and outside... in theory, it will be ready in a few years.
(Few or a few? I always confuse these two, anyway, I mean in "not too many years")

You are correct onar. It will be ready in a few years. I wonder if few people will visit or if they get crowds? I'll bet more than a few people actually visit. (Few without the indefinite article carries negative expectations.)

Thank you!!! I hope I'll finally remember it and never forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it will be a popular destination. It's exterior with all this nature, the forest and the paths was already popular, there is a club that used to organise walks during weekends. I have the impression they also used to keep it clean. I don't know if this club still exists and if they still organise walks now that I supposed workers are all around the place with machines, special vehicles etc.
