As patron of UNICEF Countess Alexandra was in Sri Lanka because of civil war-torn parts of the country. With the trip was among others the Danish Ambassador and former court lady Alexandra Christina Lynge, who accompanied Alexandra on several tours, writes dr.dk .
- The ambassador was a little concerned about the situation, and he was in constant contact with its local sources, says Christina Lynge.
Then they flew over the beautiful mountain scenery.
- Suddenly, there is fierce shooting. We see the flames right in front of our window, Alexandra and I am terrified, says Christina Lynge.
The two men grabbed each others hands and made himself mentally ready to fall, they both explained.
- The seconds or minutes that followed were really long. But it's amazing how one goes into such an emergency, I have since thought, says Alexandra.
The helicopter had several security and military personnel on board.
- I remember that I looked instinctively towards the military men who sat in the helicopter. They looked me straight in the eye and I could see that their eyes were not as frantic as ours. It made me more calm, explains the countess about the dramatic event.
Fortunately, there was no reason to worry - the helicopter was not shot, but the pilot had triggered some technical precautions called "flares". They looked as luminous flames outside the window.
But the two women had, however, need to double check as they landed and stepped out of the machine.
- You have to see it with your own eyes, because it was so violent an episode for us. We should see that there were holes in the helicopter, so we went instinctively around the machine when we landed, explains the Countess of P4 program.
