Smiley I know she's no longer princess of Denmark and was given the title of countess. So, does it mean she carries out duties for the family even though she isn't a princess of Denmark? I'm only asking because I don't know how it works out as I'm American..

Alex still retains some of her patronages that she had while she was a member of the family.

I don't think she carries out duties for the family since she's no longer part of the royal family.  She has kept many of her patronages and carries out duties as a patron of the organization-just not as a member of the royal family.

alex gets a lifelong allowance from the state. she has no obligation whatsoever. in other words she does not (have to) do anything in return.

any involvement she has in charities is in a private capacity not as a representative for the state of denmark.

Countess Alexandra to face death - It was one of the few times in my where I thought: Now it's over.

Countess Alexandra expresses her thoughts dramatically in an exclusive personal interview with DR P4, which was sent on Saturday afternoon.

As patron of UNICEF Countess Alexandra was in Sri Lanka because of civil war-torn parts of the country. With the trip was among others the Danish Ambassador and former court lady Alexandra Christina Lynge, who accompanied Alexandra on several tours, writes dr.dk .
- The ambassador was a little concerned about the situation, and he was in constant contact with its local sources, says Christina Lynge.

Then they flew over the beautiful mountain scenery.
- Suddenly, there is fierce shooting. We see the flames right in front of our window, Alexandra and I am terrified, says Christina Lynge.

The two men grabbed each others hands and made himself mentally ready to fall, they both explained.
- The seconds or minutes that followed were really long. But it's amazing how one goes into such an emergency, I have since thought, says Alexandra.

The helicopter had several security and military personnel on board.
- I remember that I looked instinctively towards the military men who sat in the helicopter. They looked me straight in the eye and I could see that their eyes were not as frantic as ours. It made me more calm, explains the countess about the dramatic event.

Fortunately, there was no reason to worry - the helicopter was not shot, but the pilot had triggered some technical precautions called "flares". They looked as luminous flames outside the window.

But the two women had, however, need to double check as they landed and stepped out of the machine.
- You have to see it with your own eyes, because it was so violent an episode for us. We should see that there were holes in the helicopter, so we went instinctively around the machine when we landed, explains the Countess of P4 program.

That is scary! If the pilot triggered flares he must have thought there was a risk of missiles being fired  Yikes

I don't know how reliable DR.dk is JAS, but as a UNICEF patron or supporter, people often venture out to dangerous places in order to make the rest of the world aware of a certain situation, or to assist people in need.

Given that Shri Lanka is a very tumultuous place, I can easily see it. What I can also easily see, that Alex is not living out of a 5-star hotel and only opting for photo session - but in the middle of things that happen.

Alexandra: My children should be open

Tolerance and openness are the most important thing to teach his children. Tells the countess in a personal interview on Saturday in the P4 program journey. It may not seem surprising that Countess Alexandra insistence on openness, when you consider her background. Not worrying about succession, nevertheless she is the mother of two sons who are part of the Danish throne.
- We try to give them a life that is as calm and beautiful as possible. We succeed very well, I think, says Countess Alexandra, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix are living in every day.

She is very sure of priorities in relation to her sons' upbringing
- The world is bigger than every day. I think it is important to teach our children that the world is not a small circle you move in on a daily basis. That there is a much larger world outside, said the countess, who herself grew up in Hong Kong. She has studied in four countries and left home for more than 15 years ago.

She explains what she specifically wants to show his children
- Tolerance, above all! Other languages, colors, scents and foods. They must have their eyes opened to other things in life, they should try some other things and be tolerant of others, says the Countess.

But how do you do it in a family that lives a life that seems to be first class.
- You walk the streets, together with local people, taste the local cuisine. Sometimes we are together with friends abroad. So ask and hear about their lives, their interests, what should you do and what you must not in their country, said the countess, who is used to move all over the globe.

She has a favorite pastime when she is out she wants to share with her children.
- To sit back and observe life. It's one of the really exciting things to go, says Countess Alexandra.
