Indonesian prince visits secondary school in Bladel

A secondary school in Bladel has had an Indonesian prince visiting. Prince Wironegoro of Yogyakarta visited the Pius X College because of an exchange project with Indonesia.

Prince Wironegoro is the husband of Crown Princess Mangkubumi, the daughter of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. The Sultan has a special position in the Indonesian state system. From his position, he is also governor of the Yogyakarta region, while in all other provinces the governor is elected.

The prince visited the school with a group of students from the Tumbuh University of Applied Sciences in Yogyakarta. Prince Wironegoro is the patron of the Pius X College. The visit is part of a larger tour, which will also include a visit to Germany.

Exhibition
The group arrived at the school this morning. The visit started in one of the classrooms to meet the students and teachers.

The exchange with Indonesia is an initiative of teacher Henny Damen. He thinks it is important that students get to know other cultures better. "The fact that this prince is the patron of this school makes it extra cool," he told Omroep Brabant.

The prince opened an exhibition of artworks made by Indonesian students at the school. He also reflected on the importance of the exchange. The visit ended with a traditional Indonesian dance performance in the auditorium.
