Friederike seemed awfully shy...

I agree. I always thought she was the domineering sort - at least with her daughter.

I bring up the topic because a new book has been published and turned to a series about couples who had major role in History of modern Greece. Of course, one of them is Pavlos and Friederike. I have found an article about their chapter in the book and I'm going to translate it as soon as I can, maybe this or the next week.

When he was living in England, Crown Prince Paul worked as an apprentice aircraft mechanic at Armstrong-Whitworth's. The factory is in Coventry. He used the name Paul Beck. How did he decide upon Beck?

It was during the Greek Civil War that Queen Frederika, who had converted to Greek Orthodoxy, set up Queen's Camps/Child Cities for orphaned and impoverished children who were provided shelter, food and other necessities.

Why did Prince Paul refuse the throne after the demise of his brother King Alexander (October 1920)?
