It's very clear that an abdication is sorely needed.  While I'll feel for Guillaume and Stephanie, I do find comfort that the sentiment is that the consort's role is one of supportive spouse and parent.  That sentiment will definitely help Stephanie compared to other monarchies.  At this point Henri needs to be told that abdication is the only way and once done sent off to France and basically told not to return.  The Cour would need to shield Guillaume and Stephanie for Henri and MT for a period of time but with support and careful planning Guillaume and Stephanie might just surprise us.

It would be interesting to find out the legal status of the $4BN of assets that he has .... how much of it is his to do with as he wants and how much held in trust for the reigning GD ? If MT is no longer GD how much access would she have to the jewels and furnishings ? What sort of allowance - if any - would she have ? Would they have to spend their own money to support themselves ?

I can see money being behind the continuance in their roles, and hence the fightback on the change in day to day arrangements. Gui would currently get an income from the State but the other "children" don't. Felix probably does not need financial assistance (although I'm sure he benefits from distributions from Trusts). The other three would not earn the sort of money they need to support their lifestyles. They rely on their parents. If access to current income sources is cut or restricted then it will affect them all. A pretty strong motive to refuse to budge IMO. They should either shut up and put up with the "new world" or go away to France permanently.

.

Sorry, but Henri and MT should just go and shut up (live in France or elsewhere).

Henri surely has enough money to support himself, his useless wife and children for the next decades. If they can't afford their known lifestyle any longer I guess they should do, what other people do and simply work.

If that's not enough...sorry then learn to live with less.

Though Gui and Steph certainly might need help in the first years for representing etc. Alex might be the best choice, but maybe also Seb. They should be paid per engagement as in Sweden.

Otherwise I really don't want to hear any more whining from this poor family.

Please Gui, now - do a Felipo!

I'm genuinely of the belief that had Gui and Steph not long had a child there would be an abdication right now. TBH it would not surprise me if the only way Henri & MT have been allowed to stay in place through these times is because quietly behind closed doors it has been agreed between Henri & the PM that he won't be there much longer, just long enough for Gui and Steph to settle into family life before stepping aside. It gives Henri & MT time to try and repair some of the damage done (though MT doesn't really seem onboard with that) before stepping down and also to make it seem less as if he is being pushed out due to bad press and bad decisions. It also gives Steph and Gui family time which would be the most selfless decision Henri and MT have made.
The recent interview has shown that MT can travel back to Lux when it suits even with Covid around, so her prolonged stay or self-imposed semi exile to Biarritz is her choice and could anyone really expect or think that they can keep that going indefinitely? More likely IMO its a 'let's make this work for a year or two then settle down together' situation.

Well despite having been the last person to comment on here I've only just really got around to reading the articles about the interview not being authorised. The comments, attributed to the Court Marshal, are pretty  shocking really - imagine the head of any other royal court making the same about their royal family...
https://luxtimes.lu/luxem...nterview-was-unauthorised

Backes, a former diplomat who was appointed at the court to oversee the reforms on behalf of the government, told national broadcaster RTL there was no longer a "climate of fear” at the court.
...
Yet adopting the recommendations from the so-called Waringo report remained a "learning process" for the royal couple, she added.

And not from Backes (the Court Marshal) but still
Bettel on Tuesday talked to lawmakers in a closed-door session about progress made in reforming the court after the Waringo report. According to parliament's website, Bettel had said that good progress had been made, but that there is still work to be done

I mean really, it would just be easier to declare them not fit for purpose and to make Henri abdicate.

I agree. MT seems to think a new hairstyle and weight loss will make all this go away. Which is why she needs to.

I hate to interrupt the sweet peaceful place where Guillaume and Stephanie are right now with their gorgeous chubby baby but I wonder if the country wouldn't be better off with a new leader. But then if Guillaume becomes the Grand Duke how do you control your parents? They are young and possibly have two or three decades ahead of them? This is horrible for Luxembourg.

I agree, no way MT would just go away quietly. She'd be playing the queen-in-exile role from Biarritz with no court to keep her in check - think her public poor-me interview about JC on steroids. I think she loves her son so wouldn't criticize him but would definitely make herself the victim.

Is "learning process" Luxembourgish for "these two arrogant bozos just will not listen"?

It's Luxembourgish for "we need to break out the horse whip to beat sense and compliance into these two".

A global pandemic and a new heir still aren't enough to convince these two dull lovebirds that they are not the victims here.

You aren't joint monarchs. It isn't personal, it isn't sexist, it's just the way things work. MT has a defined and important role, she used to inhabit it with some skill and impact. And then she lost interest. Faking illness to get out of state visits. Spending as much time as possible outside Lux. Ditching the bazaar and other traditions. Doing very little during the pandemic.

And Henri? He's worse. The man is an idiot. Step aside and let your florid son lead Luxembourg.

he's lost interest as her country struggles through a pandemic. Biarritz is just  But she's not the Queen of Luxembourg.

She knows violence also means bullying of staff, family members, etc etc? It is both physical and mental?

Even more shameless than St Hoefia's "Let's stop online bullying" cause.

Why is it always the bully that takes up “Stop Bullying” “Stop Violence” campaigns.

Really MT?!

When did you clue in to this novel concept?!

Was it after you bullied, bitch-slapped or threw shoes at your staff or all of the above?
