What possesses these individuals to decide to take up the bad habit  (in this day and age) Dead?

1. Image (good for PR, highlighting one's status as a jettsetter)?

2. Peer pressure?

3. Trait to be accepted into the social elite (bonding over a bad habit)?

4. Pressures of a busy and hard life to pose for the camera, fussing over their physical appearances?

5. A quick and easy fix to lose and maintain weight loss, but also be praised by sugary journalists for not being anorexic?
Very stupid reason to do so, and hypocritical especially when they bask in the light of flashing sugary cameras for looking 'naturally beautiful, and glamourous'  Snare  /promoting a 'healthy body image'  Nono

6. Must have characteristic to be a future Princess/member of the nobility?

What irratates me the most are the smug/weird faces that they make.

Clearly smoking has killed her brain cells, or she missed out genetically and she has no brain.

- Doesn't smoking actually make sports even more tiring as it restricts the lungs capacity to carry oxygen?

Good thread Why Thumb up Star.  I am also very surprised about Queen Rania, and I can't tell in the picture because it's small, but is Charlotte of Monaco smoking?  I knew all the other family members did other than Alexandra, but I also didn't think that Charlotte smoked.  Queen Rania really shocks me because I thought she was such a health and fitness type.  I know smoking is held in different regard in various parts of the world, but when you see all of the statistics...wow!!  There's times I consider it in the "keeping weight down category" but I just don't want to resort to that.  And it always blows my mind about Camilla smoking...I always read that Prince Charles HATES cigarette smoking and here the love of his life does it.

I feel ill just looking at those pics.... and that's coming from a former smoker, having quit my long-term habit just over a year ago.

No matter how much a Dermatologist or plastic surgeon can be paid, there's no hiding the tell-tale signs of a smoker. I see it all over Daisy, Char, Caroline, Steph and Jokke (him in particular!) and if their complexion is any clue, just thinking about how they smell makes my stomach turn.  Dead

PS - to any smokers out there thinking of quiting, take it from me - quiting is as simple as a decision to stop. Simple but true.... just stop and you're done!

Beer  Beer Many thanks.

Unfortunately, all of Caroline's children smoke (except the young Alexandra).

Charlotte, up close.    Crap

Lavina Borromeo is also a mother of two young boys (I don't even think she quit smoking during her pregnancies?)  Thumb down  .

Women like Matilde 'no brains' Borromeo and her comments disgust and astonishes me  Ranting.

I wonder what women, like Matilde, would do for a living if she was plain Jane Smith:
1. She is no beauty and has bug/odd shaped eyes
2. Clearly she has no brains/common sense (to see that smoking makes physical tasks harder, not easier) to forge her own independent career and is content with the lifestyle of a socialite (doing nothing other than chain-smoking away with her clique, designing/modeling clothes, whilst waiting to marry any hereditary Prince, Duke, Count, heir to a millionare that comes her way).
3. Is deprived of money and connections to the top plastic surgeons/stylists to rectify the effects of smoking.

There are many reasons why people begin to smoke.  There is no clear-cut answer.   Smiley

Why are some people alcoholics and cannot stop?  Addiction.

Why are some people drug addicts and cannot stop?  Addiction.

Why do some people over-eat and eventually become obese?  Addiction.

Why are some people hoarders?  Addiction.

Why are some people sex addicts?  Addiction.

Why are some people OCD?  Addiction.

Why do some people eat slaughtered animals thinking that it's actually healthy for them to consume?  Brainwashed.

It's not easy to quit smoking; furthermore, there are a myriad of reasons why some people start.

In regards, to making those funny smug faces... that's what people look like when they inhale.

I'm shocked.  I had no idea so many of them smoked.  Apart from the many health issues, it's incredibly tacky and is considered (here at least - we've become a very anti smoking nation) something people from lower socio economic backgrounds do - basically people who aren't well educated enough to know better.

Since many normal people take care of their health, nobles think that it´s a chance to be more different from them. Or this oily hair which some Royals have. Because normal people wash their hair. I could imagine that

I had no idea that Mette Marit smoked either, but I guess it really doesn't surprise me.  I wish people would not smoke for health reasons, but let's face it, I think a lot of people start because it looks cool. Especially for kids; I think that's why a lot of them start.  And with all the stigmatism that gets leveled at people who do smoke, I hate that.  No, for health reasons they should not smoke, but I also refuse to treat them like they're lepers!!
