I wonder if they will call him Gus or Philip or (please no) Auggie. Iím glad they included Philip and would love for them to use it.

The general German nickname is Gustl (pronounced like goostel (as in goose).

August isnt a name I'd use (or even consider) but I really like it!! It seems that Eugenie has inherited her mother's love of history and historical names, and it seems that a lot of throight and research went into naming this precious baby.

Love that Philip got a mention too! Little August looks like a darling, and so tiny in his father's arms!!

Can I just add that I love that their midwife took the picture?? I love how midwives have professional standing and respect in the UK. Plus I just finished Call the Midwife and love that show.

August was in the top 1000 names for boys in the UK in 2019, so itís definitely not too ďout thereĒ, and Iím a sucker for quirky family names.

I love the name! Itís different but not odd. Also the picture of a teeny-tiny baby makes me miss having teeny-tiny babies.

I will admit when I first heard the name my mind went flying back to the P G Wodehouse character Augustus "Gussie" Fink-Nottle and his newts.

The Queen Mum was a Wodehouse fan and might not have appreciated the reference!

Like Paulina I particular liked that the midwife took the photos and Eugenie made sure to cite that. It's a small thing that shows support in a big way. Well done.

So maybe Ernst August (Junior!!) for a godfather? Eugenie certainly knows the Hanover brothers who were at her wedding...

I love the name and so happy that Philip made the cut. They carefully found family names and maybe there are wonderful stories attached to each of those men. I can't wait to watch little Auggie grow up. They are a sweet family who are playing the PR game just right.

Good name choice Smiley I like all of it.

August sounds completely ďnormalĒ to my Danish ears so Iím quite fascinated with all the posts here saying how unusual and almost unfamiliar it is.  Grin Gotta love how international this board is.

I like Master August's names.
I like the fact that Queen Victoria's husband's full name was stated: Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel.
How many people know that Prince Albert's first name is Francis?

August is a very, very powerful, serious and substantial name. (May I say, much more so than Archie or Archewell. )

So true Hester.

And this baby will have a strong and loving family behind him. Unlike poor Archie, who only has......
