No yachts anymore, but rather boats:

1)
De Groene Draeck (English: The Green Dragon) is the private royal yacht of Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands. It was named after the Dutch warship from 1623, the Vlieghende Groene Draeck, which was, among others, the flagship of Piet Hein, often captained by Maarten Tromp. The current yacht contains a carved mast shield depicting the original ship.

De Groene Draeck is a traditional Dutch round bottomed sailing ship, built in 1957 in Amsterdam. She was presented by the Dutch people to Princess Beatrix for her 18th birthday. Her sail number is therefore VA 18.

The ship is regularly used by the Royal Family for sailing. The ship is usually moored in the town of Muiden.

De Groene Draeck is a Lemsteraak that was built from 1956 to 1957 in the shipbuilding hall of the Amsterdamsche Scheepswerf G. de Vries Lentsch Jr. in Amsterdam. The launch was on June 4, 1957, the transfer on June 15, 1957. The ship then has a ladies' cabin for four people, a men's cabin for two people and two reserve sleeping places in the Salon. The front is intended for the fixed crew of the ship and has a separate rise to the deck.

To save space in the cockpit, the ship does not have a tiller, but a steering wheel. The carvings (more like sculpture) around the cockpit are chiseled in relief from teak wood by C. Bishoff. On the helm lies a winged dragon, designed by Katinka van Rood, the princess's sculpting teacher. In addition to the stick anchor, a ploughshare anchor and two cat anchors are also on board. At the time, the navigation lights could also run on kerosene, in case the power on board would fail.

The idea of offering the princess a ship was developed in a committee, consisting of representatives of companies that practice sea shipping, coastal shipping, Rhine shipping, towage, inland shipping, fishing, etc., as well as representatives of the Royal Navy, rescue services, water sports , in addition to people who had an interest in water sports, but also mayors who owned major water sports centers at that time. The Groene Draeck was presented to HRH Princess Beatrix by this Committee Sailing Netherlands on the occasion of her 18th birthday in 1956. The sail number is therefore VA 18

The owner is the Crown Estates Foundation of the House of Orange-Nassau. The transfer of ownership seems to have happened tacitly around the accession

In 2007, a discussion broke out about the maintenance costs of De Groene Draeck, which were always at the expense of the Ministry of Defense. In 2005 and 2006 they amounted to € 416,000. A new comparable ship costs € 800,000 to € 2,500,000 and maintenance is normally € 50,000 to € 70,000 per year.

On 11 May 2010 it was announced that Queen Beatrix would still pay a large part of the maintenance itself. She went to pay extra maintenance for two years. The costs were estimated at € 326,000.

In response to questions from the MP Pechtold, Prime Minister Rutte reported at the end of September 2015 that from 2010 to 2015 € 223,000 more was spent on maintenance than expected. And, moreover, that the budget of € 51,000 per year would not be spent, but € 95,000.

RTL Nieuws revealed in February 2016 that the maintenance costs for years were around € 50,000 in the financial annual reports, but that in reality the costs amounted to more than double each year. Rutte would have been structurally informed the House of Representatives.

The budgeted maintenance costs for the 2021-2025 amounted to € 425,000. That was insufficient for a large -scale renovation of the boat. Despite the maintenance of the Ministry of Defense, the ship was subject to corrosion due to regular wear and weather influences. In addition, several systems on board were outdated, such as the electrical system and the gas installation. It was also established that De Groene Draeck no longer met the safety requirements. A new wooden deck was considered necessary and repair work had to be carried out on the steel hull. Princess Beatrix promised to wear the renovation costs that exceeded the five -year budget. In September 2021 the boat for the renovation was removed from the canal. The work was carried out by a specialized company.

2)

In 2020, WA bought a boat for his villa in Greece:

Our king has a new water toy, at least that is what Shownieuws reports this week. According to the gossip section of SBS, Willem-Alexander has purchased a Wajer 55 for his holiday home in Greece. He seems to have sold his previous boat, the program reports.

The new boat that would have been extensively tested by the king in recent weeks on Dutch waters measures 16 meters and would have cost him € 2 million.

Incidentally, Willem-Alexander already owned a Wajer, a 38, which he baptized Aldebaran.

Incidentally, according to Showniews, the cadastral data show that Wim-Lex has now sold Wajer 38.

Ha! Old saying in the Pacific Northwest: the happiest day in a man's life is the day he buys a boat. The second happiest day is the day he sells it.

Oma Trixie's boat is gorgeous. I'd love to see more photos. I've never seen a boat built along those lines before.

A Lemsteraak is a certain type of sailing boat that belongs to the round-bottomed sailing boats. Originally the Lemsteraak was a Frisian sailing ship, designed in the Frisian place Lemmer, which was used for fishing. Characteristic of the Lemsteraak is the crooked stem. The barge is built egg-shaped with the tip to the rear. The round lines in the length and the width ensure excellent sailing properties.

Thanks. It's lovely. I hope some day to see one close up. It would make wooden-boat fanatics here in the US swoon, I'm sure.
