I forgot to add an interesting information about Mette's engagement ring: "Haakon gave Mette-Marit the engagement ring his grandfather King Olav V gave to his Märtha, and his father King Harald V to his Sonja"

Saleha and Soraya had/have such big ostentatious rings. I'm all for getting a proper rock but that's just ridiculous!

Yikes!!  I'm not so sure I like that family tradition.  No sooner does the heir pick out a bride than his mother's engagement ring is yanked off her finger, cleaned up, and presented to her future daughter-in-law.  Sonja's ring was probably still warm when Mette Marit slipped it on.  And what did Sonja get to replace it?  Something MUCH larger, I hope!

I agree. The thought of having to give away one's engagement ring is terrible. Even if it's for the son's fiancée and future queen. And if I were the fiancée I wouldn't be thrilled to receive a ring which was worn by another woman before, even if it's the future mother-in-law and current queen.
But then ... I love the idea of giving a "family ring" to the bride, an heirloom that is. I think that's something special.

As to the royal engagement rings, I love Letizia's and yes, I love Moshie's  Secret
Size-wise I think it alright ... but that's just my personal opinion, I don't like over-the-top jewlery.
The design is simple and I just love rubies
Compared to Alexandra's, I think Mosh's is prettier (mainly because I don't like gold).

I agree, Hermione.  Alexandra's ring has such a heavy setting...it looks like part of a set of brass knuckles.  The stones are all right, but they're lost in that wide gold frame.  I, too, like Mares' ring.  Another ugly one is Marie Chantal's...looks like she put it together herself out of leftovers from a beading kit.

i am not the jewellery kind of a woman, i only wear my wedding band because it is thinly set/designed, but for some funny reasons, i think sarah of brunei's e ring is the best looking one. yes it looks big, but at the same time, it looks elegant on her fingers. or maybe she just has elegant hands?

I think the one bothers me in Marie Chantal’s ring is the cabochon sapphire, well it might because of I don't really like this cutting style (except for star ruby gem, star sapphire gem, blood stone, opal, jade and other kind of stone which do not sparkle in facet cut).  http://i227.photobucket.c...royal/MarieChantal1-1.jpg

If I'm not mistaken Anne Marie’s also has diamond and sapphire engagement ring, does anyone have picture of it.
I wonder if they choose Sapphire and diamond because those stone have Greece flag colour Thinking.

The sapphire was a GRF heirloom that Pavlos inherited and wanted MC to have. He had it mounted with the heart-shaped diamond that was his own contribution.  I love sapphires regardless of cut but I never cared for heart-shaped diamonds.  They are not very sophisticated.  I think of high-school promise rings when I see a heart-shaped diamond.

Thanks for the info UB
I've never seen the other side of the ring clearly (which shows it's hearth shaped diamond), but oval shaped gem and hearth shaped gem in one ring definitely not my favourite one.

I like Maxima's, Mares and Sophie's but cannot understand why Sophie's 2 carat diamond cost so much money.

Maybe it cost that much because it has the 4 "C" --- Clarity, Color, Cut, and Carat. If a diamond doesn't have these 4 they are not worth as much.
