That ring looks like something you could buy at a mall.

Seriously, her hands look really bad for someone her age. In fact, I think they look really bad for a 50-yr-old.

In 1840 Queen Victoria of Great Britain received a snake and emerald engagement ring from Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha for her engagement.

Not a fan of snakes in the first place, and a snake-themed engagement ring would NEVER make me happy, no matter how big the emerald in its head. Usually I can't fault Prince Albert's taste, but this time? UGH!

The Victorians were masters of "hidden meanings" and symbols. The snake represented eternity and of course marital bliss ( Spiteful yeah pretty obvious phallic symbol)
A quote from the time sums it up: "Your life is like this snake's coils. No matter how many turns it makes, you'll end up back where you belong. With me." -Maria V. Snyder
