(AGI) Islamabad - The Pakistani parliament has passed a law that will send anyone who disfigures a woman with acid to life in prison. Every year 200 women are attacked with acid, leaving mutilated lives and scarred bodies. Thanks to new amendments, the guilty will face punishments from 14 years to life in prison and minimum fines of 1,000 rupees (about $12,000). . .

A positive step, however how effectively this is enforced is a different matter.

Was there previously no law against it?

There was no law that singled it out. I think it fell under a GBH (Grievous Boidly Harm- they have that in Oz right?) type charge. This new law deals with it specifically.
