I think the main reason people in the UK would rather keep the monarchy is because there is no better alternative in the eyes of many.

Should we elect a politician like Tony Blair or David Cameron to be President like those in France or USA? Most people would hate that - a greedy, untrustworthy, party political politician being Head of State.

or do we elect someone famous to be Head of State, David Beckham maybe? J K Rowling possibly?

or do we give up all hope of people electing their own Head of State and let the politicians appoint their own? In which case why ditch one unelected Head of State for another?

I don't think the monarchy is always very popular or seen by many people as the "perfect solution" rather it is what we are use to, and better to many than the alternatives.

At least all of these people (Beckhams, Blairs and so on) will be replaced and would be expected to act within the limits of their prerogatives. Trump will go away, too. While the royals hold their privileges for life. What did they do to deserve such an honor? They won the lottery of life.
Some of them aren't even that bright to graduate from university.

I agree. Plus, for all the change going on at the moment, the monarchy seems to be a steadfast thing since 1660, it's always been there, and despite the current political situation, I think that most brits are afraid of "the alternative", ie a Republic.

My problem is some of the royals just don't seem to put their heart into their duties and the people that they are supposed TO SERVE.
