I have to agree with DoV on the white in formal occasions.
After a certain age, it doesn’t look good. (Unless you are Viola Davis and you can wear white forever!)
Casual summer white like linens and sundresses, white is great.
And seriously, the outfit must support the jewels.

Very true, especially for caucasians. The skin gets lighter as we age, and as our hair also gets lighter we can change from high contrast coloring (dark hair/lighter skin) to low contrast (monotone hair and skin). High contrast can allow you to wear a much wider range of shades, although I never looked very good in white. Regardless of age, I think you can still wear white if you want to, but it looks better away from the face or you might look washed out.
