King Alexander I of Serbia managed to do without a coronation. He realized that a ceremony with Orthodox rites would be an affront to Catholic and Muslim subjects.

At the coronation of King Edward II in 1308, Edward and Piers Gaveston showed a disrespect for protocol. In a breach of decorum, Gaveston wore purple robes as if he were royalty.

Does anyone know if the coronet of the Princess of Wales has an arch on the top? I know the coronet of her husband does, but the only  picture of Queen Mary wearing a coronet at the coronation of Edward VII, which is the only time the coronet of a Princess of Wales would have been worn, shows it without an arch. However that picture was a drawing made before the coronation and very inaccurate about her dress. Also the artist got Queen Alexandra's crown off, so he's not to be relied on.

The coronation of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria as Queen of Hungary took place on June 25, 1740. She knelt and kissed the cross and swore to uphold the laws of the land. The Bishop anoited her and put St. Stephen's mantle around her shoulders, the Holy Crown on her head and handed her the orb and sceptre.
