The coronation of Edward VIII as monarch was suppose to take place at Westminster Abbey on May 12, 1937. The same date was used for his brother, King George VI.

The influence of the Guise family was marked at the very outset of the reign of King Henry II of France. At his coronation on July 25, 1547, the new king received his crown from the hands of Charles of Guise, who was created cardinal five days later.

And his sister Mary/Marie would become Queen of Scots.

At the beginning of January 1594, Henry IV of France began preparations for his coronation. The location for the ceremony was the first of the problems to be met. Reims was the traditional scene for coronations. However, Reims was at the time in the hands of the Catholic League. The problem was further complicated by a decision taken by the Estates of Blois in 1588. The Estates had decreed the King of France must be crowned at Reims and anointed with the sacred oil there. Henry IV was crowned at Chartres Cathedral.
