True, but she had eyes and since she was severely hearing impaired, she had learned lip-reading very early on (her mother refused to acknowledge the fact that she would have to learn sign language). Now many adults at that time simply ignored children altogether, but a deaf child? Conversation and gossip among the grown-up ladies would have gone unchecked in her presence...And, I do wonder what the gossip was, with May Teck marrying the brother of her late financÚ...for the Crown?

While she was "raised as an English princess", Alice also spent time in Germany and Greece and became fluent in German.

I thought this was interesting - a report about William's visit to Alice's grave - sorry about the robotic voice.

Yes indeed --and she continued the connection by taking her girls there.  There are quite a few photos of the little imperial children playing with their Greek cousins.

Her middle name I believe was Eugenie - so that could be  what influenced the current Eugenie's name choice.

I believe her names were Victoria Alice Elizabeth Julia Marie, although she was always called by her second name.

Do you think that Princess Alice was called by her second name because if she had been called Victoria by her first name there would have been mixups between her and her mother Princess Victoria?

I think it was for the one-other:  Victoria - Alice - Victoria - Alice.  I mean, having one more Victoria among the zillion cousins wouldn't have been that remarkable!
