I wonder what the proper wedding gift would have been?

Ooh good question! I doubt they got many gifts though since their wedding was originally a secret for a while.

It would be interesting to see the differences between a tudor wedding and a modern wedding now! Might have to go down a few rabbit holes on YouTube.

Give Lucy Worsley time . . . she has done a two parter on Victoria and Albert's nuptials, she might get around to Henry VIII's in time.

As to wedding gifts, I'm sure anyone wishing to curry favor at court presented something splendid.

A well working IVF would have been appreciated I presume...

Only going tangentially off topic here, in my world history classes we've been studying Elizabeth I (daughter of course of Anne Boleyn so I'm not super off topic!) and talking about how she was proposed to by Philip II (hence why the Armada Portrait is so fantastic because of the sheer amount of shade she throws in it) but we were also talking about how she was proposed to Ivan the Terrible and we just could not get our minds around how radically different history would have turned out had she accepted Ivan's hand in marriage!

On this day 70 years ago, King George VI waved goodbye to his daughter, Princess Elizabeth, before she embarked on her Commonwealth tour. It would be the last time they saw each other. Less than a week later, Elizabeth would become Queen.
