All three York ladies look really good for once. Dignified, appropriate, royal. Makes me sad for what might have been. This would have been the Yorks's 25th anniversary year.

IS DASHING DAVE GOOD ENOUGH FOR NEW-LOOK PRINCESS BEATRICE?

Yet according to insiders, rumours that Clark is planning to go down on bended knee now Beatrice has graduated could prove a little premature.

Beatrice, who gained a 2:1 in her history degree at Goldsmiths, University of London, in July has far more pressing matters on her mind, not least the conundrum of what to do with one’s life.

Sources claim the fifth in line to the throne was left bitterly disappointed after her father’s attempts to wangle her a royal role fell on deaf ears. An insider said: “Andrew has been talking to the men in grey suits to see if there could be a role for her but courtiers have said ‘no way’.

"She wants to do charity work ‘like mummy’ but the powers that be have put a block on her carrying out any official duties. They are trying to slim down the royal family as it is and there has already been much talk of both her and Eugenie losing their bodyguards. As a result Bea has got nothing lined up work-wise. It is a dilemma because the last thing they want is for her to be seen as a freeloader like Fergie.”

At six years Beatrice’s senior, Clark’s career is well established at Sir Richard Branson’s empire where he works on the multi-millionaire’s Virgin Galactic space tourism project.

The son of Michael Clark, a wealthy American who was chief legal counsel at Cadbury Schweppes until he retired six years ago, Clark is described as fiercely ambitious both in his career and socially.

A source said: “He can be quite aloof and doesn’t always seem to pay Bea all that much notice when they are out. He certainly doesn’t court publicity but there’s no doubt he likes the attention that going out with a member of the royal family brings. They get special treatment wherever they go and he enjoys being part of the jet set. You only have to look at the way he dresses and carries himself to see that he fancies himself as a part of the royals’ inner circle. Being with Bea has opened many doors.”

Quote
As one pal put it: “When Bea was a bit chubbier there was a sense that she was lucky to be with Dave. Now she’s lost weight, it’s the other way round. There’s been all this talk of marriage but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was now Bea, not Dave, who was considering their options.”

Dave seems shady to me too.  Something about his body language seems off to me in most photos.

I'm scratching my head about this, too. Why couldn't Bea do charity work "like mummy" on her own? I mean, Angelina Jolie and even Paris Hilton do charity work!

I honestly do not think there is any problem about Bea doing charity work on her own and if it is a genuine desire/calling/vocation/ whatever, she will do so. Other royals have done so (eg: The Duchess of Kent worked with the Samaritans in a private capacity totally on the quiet no fanfares no red carpets.)
If Bea is really wanting to do the charity work she could but there would no big fuss - she'd really have to get in and work the real thing and voluntary charity work can be very hard work emotionally and physically.
I think the real issue reported is that she wanted to be officially recognised as a figurehead, royal patron of these charities. It is that sanctioning of her as an official royal patron that has been denied I believe.

I think she wants to have royal patronages so she won't have to work. If she did charity work on her own, she would still have to get a job and that's what she's trying to avoid.

I'm with you on that. And she needs to make a move on it now, because if she doesn't get herself established as a royal representative in the next years, that ship will have sailed. Charles keeps saying he wants to reduce the number of actively working royals. If she doesn't have a firm spot by then, she's out. And then, horror of horrors, work looms ahead.  Nerves Or she'll just have to marry the filthy rich, posh boyfriend.
