okay peeps, this shiznit is confusing me...who are they to each other (Victoria Luise and Geord Friedrich)

soooo Her late father, who would have been the successor in the house of Hohenzollern, is the older brother of Georg's late father, but because both are deceased and Georg is the oldest boy from all the other Prussia children, he is the head of the house of Hohenzollern. Which makes Georg Victoria's first cousin.

IF there would be royalty in Germany, Georg's title would be now: Georg Friedrich, Prince of Prussia - as the head of the house.

Both have the same grandfather and grandmother. Man, that's a freaking mess.

But isn't that always the case when you are first cousin to someone?
The children of my uncle (which are my first cousins) had also the same grandparents as I had - just because their father and my father are brothers from the same parents. Besides that, for sure, we have also each a different granparental couple, from our mother's sides.
Or what do I miss here that I do not see the mess you are referring to, Peeds?

The stranger thing that happens sometimes in those royal circles is that the last generation does not have 8 great-grandparents (4 different couples), as would be normal, but sometimes only 6 ...

It's not because the oldest brother is dead that Georg Friedrich is the head of the house, but because the oldest brother didn't marry according to his father's wishes (and house rules).

the mess was for me to figure out who is related how to each other.....LOOOL. It wasn't as much as a statment, but a loud/visible sigh. There is info on Georg (Wiki, blogs, and heraldic pages), but not on Victoria....Victoria's father on the other hand had lots of sources. I had to figure out who her father is and then went from there.

From the Wiki, her father was quite ... uhh ... "interesting": married 3 times against the house laws, lost his first history doctorate as early as 1973 because of plagiarism (and that was way before WikiPlag or anything saving electronically, so it must have been quite obvious ...) and wrote a second dissertation about his own family during Nazi time (!).

From what I've read from a book called Royals and the Reich and other books, there were few really vehement Nazis among the German princes of pre War I Royal Houses. One of those was Chistoph who was married to one of Prince Philip's sisters and was killed in Italy in a air training exercise late in WW2.

Most of the Princes were bitterly opposed to Communism. (There had been Communist soviets established all over Germany in the chaos of 1918/1919 at the time when the Kaiser and the Hohenzollen dynasty was forced off the throne into exile.) Some, like many ordinary Germans and foreign fellow travellers, felt that the Nazis were a bulwark against communism. Russia was more or less regarded as a rogue state internationally between the wars.

There was also a hope among German Princes and nobles at the beginning of the Third Reich that Hiltler might be sympathetic to bringing back the Kaiser and the aristocracy, so their positions, titles, lands and property might be restored. Of course that hope didn't last long but it was there.

Also, it was sometimes compulsory in people's professions to be a member of the Nazi Party, whether you were active in it or not, especially if you came from a prominent family. Every member of the armed forces had to swear a personal oath to Hitler on joining. Also, these Princes and nobles were patriotic Germans. Whether they liked the Nazi creed or not many would have wanted to serve their country and fight their enemies during the War.

Prussia was always a state that was very proud of its military traditions going back centuries. Most of the Hohenzollen males served in the Army as a matter of course. Other German states weren't so militaristic. However, in the 19th century it became customary for the rulers of those states and their male relatives to wear military uniforms even when off duty.

Georg von Trapp (aka the father from The Sound of Music) fled Austria because he was about to be forced to join the German navy after Germany invaded Austria. Lucky escape for him and the family - I am guessing many weren't so lucky to escape..

Didn't realize they've grown so big already, and also didn't realize that Georg/Sophie have 4 childrne now, the last one another boy, baptized this past May

Awwww ... I have such a soft spot for Georg and Sophie, knowing that they were childhood friends who grew up together and later fell in love. Plus, I think he just has the kindest eyes ... and her smile is infectious. I watched a documentary on ZDF right before their wedding and they seemed like a completely down-to-earth couple who just adore one another.

Death drama of Hohenzollern Prince
It is the tragic end of a life that could have been well cared for and carefree. But Carlos Patrick Godehard, Prince of Hohenzollern is dead.

According to a media report, Carlos Patrick Godehard Prince of Hohenzollern lost his life. He fell from a hotel in Berlin.   

Sad news for Germany's best-known aristocratic family.

According to the report, he had been behind bars since 2014 because of fraud in Euskirchen, had gone to Frankfurt am Main on a leave of absence. There, he is said to have visited the five-star hotel "Intercontinental" and drove to the roof terrace on the 21st floor, before he fell from it. A police spokesman said "picture" that an accident could be ruled out.

Carlos von Hohenzollern had been jailed for trading in fake investment funds. In July he was to be released from the prison Euskirchen.









Prince Carlos Patrick Godehard von Hohenzollern was born at München, Germany, on 4 December 1978. Carlos is the eldest child of Prince Godehard von Hohenzollern (1939-2001) and his wife since 1971 Heide Hansen (*1943). He is survivd by his sister Anna (*1983), who is married since 2013 to Roman Goldschmidt.
