March 8
9 children from Ukraine safe in the castle
Nine refugee children from Ukraine and their two foster mothers have found shelter at Hohenzollern Castle. Lord of the castle Georg Friedrich von Prussia and his wife Sophie came from Potsdam to greet them. This was made possible by the BlueBrixx Company and the Princess Kira of Prussia Foundation.

I live very close to the castle. They seem to be nice people. But mind: The castle is very cleverly managed to create profit and this is also part of the public image. It is a win win situation for them: It helped their image and it also helped the people.

After Prince Louis Ferdinand became head of the House of Hohenzollern in 1951, Princess Kira and her husband founded the foundation named after her on June 15, 1952.

Good point, and genuine thanks for reminding me how easy it is to fall for feel-good "propaganda" (seems like too strong of a word, but it works).  Sometimes I can be very cynical, and sometimes I have no desire to see anything other than sweetness and good intentions!  Laugh bounce

An interesting article in today's Sunday Times explores the relationship between Wilhelm of Prussia and Adolf Hitler. The Hohenzollern family is currently seeking compensation for palaces and lands lost to the Soviets at the end of WWII and it's stirred up a very German 'battle of the historians'. The article includes a short interview with Georg Friedrich

Before he was King Frederick I, Frederick of the Hohenzollern dynasty (1657-1713) was Elector Frederick III of Brandenburg from 1688 to 1713. He was "King in Prussia" instead of "King of Prussia".
