Well I am planning to be around for another 40-50 years so le's wait and see.....

 Among the European nations, I think that the Scandinavian monarchies, the Netherlands, the UK, Luxembourg and the tiny principalities will remain monarchies. We might see a couple of the older monarchs opting to abdicate due to health reasons or to leave when the new monarch is still fairly young.

The Asian and Middle Eastern monarchies are likely to remain as they are today.

I have serious doubts about the survival of the Belgian monarchy due to the country's current situation. I'm not sure if Felipe will inherit from JC. (Though I really hope that he will be the next king.)

Spain and Belgium are the 2 European monarchies I can see becoming a republic.

No one has suspected Arab Spring would happen and it did. So I wouldn't pass any country to abolish monarchies. If I have to put my money on anyone, I wouldn't put much stock on historical sentiment. I would only put my money on heirs who are politically savvy and hence, enjoy wide public support.

All Middle Eastern kingdoms are questionable. Charles doesn't have it. Williams may be able to save his father if he and Kate don't screw up in the next 20 years. Phillip of Belgian doesn't have it. Fred doesn't have any political savvy but does have public support (for reasons I can't understand). Although I think his support will wane once his mother passes and Danes have a better view of his performance/competence. I'm not too sure about WA.

The ones have the best political skills, IMO, are Felipe, Haakon and Victoria. I know republican sentiment is always strong in Spain. But I think Felipe has the political savvy and support to reign if JC hangs around until Spanish economy is back on track. Current Spanish economy will doom any monarchs. And I think he can run for president and win even if Spain becomes a republic. He's more popular than any Spanish politicians. Since most posters here are betting against him, he will be my long-odds bet. Put your money where you mouth is, ladies!

I fully agree with you!!  As long as Felipe doesn't put a foot down wrong, he'll be fine.  Many people seem to think that he doesn't have his father's charm and savvy and he won't last long as King but the same thing was said about Juan Carlos in 1975 after Franco died.  He was called "Juan Carlos el Breve" when he became king and so many people didn't think Spain would last as a monarchy.  Almost 40 years have passed and Spain is still a monarchy.  Yes, there is some republican sentiment but poll after poll conducted have had Felipe being seen as a capable future King.

If I had to just pick one monarchy that is in danger of being taken down, that would be Belgium.  Absolutely.
